Re: 2007 150 Sport: Remove Bench Seat

From Permabond- manufacturer of methacrylate adhesives: Cured acrylic adhesive is much harder to remove and may require harsher solvents such as acetone or even methylene chloride. Methylene chloride was used in paint strippers but phased out. Perhaps you have some old cans sitting on a shelf. Aceto...

Re: Gel Coat Repair

One trick to use on a gel coat repair is to apply the catalyzed paste, use a plastic straight edge to take off the excess from the patch, and then apply wax paper over the patch and lightly use your finger on the outside of the wax paper to make the paste smooth. Let it set up complexly and remove t...

Re: PVC Drain tube

[The diameter of the plug to fit the drains seen above is] 7/8[-inch, ]but the rubber needs to be sanded a bit to get good insertion and tight fit. I used a [DREMEL tool with a] sanding cylinder [to alter the diameter of the rubber plug].

PVC Drain tube

I restore 13 ft Boston Whalers and replacing the lower drain tube is always a challenge due to the angles and it has a finite life due to the brass. I figured there has to be a better way. I tried a number of approaches but the following is what I think is the best way. It uses 1/2" PVC 13.5 SD...

Yes, Stoughton, MA. Some of the pieces need planing and finishing but they have great materials and I find their prices reasonable.

Re: 1978 Refurbish Project Plans

If you decide to replace the interior wood, check out Rugby ABP : Downes & Reader Hardwood in Stoughton. When I restore 13 ft Whalers that need new wood, that's where I go. Great selection of different types of "mahogany", some on large widths.

Re: Interpretation of Federal HIN and Stencil Number

It's a 1976 model. The stencil number confirms it's a 15 ft and the 4 numbers after the 5a provide the timing when it was made. The HIN has 76 at the end as well.

Re: 2008 Mercury 60 FOURSTROKE Internal Anodes

Since other Whaler owners have this engine I thought it would be worthwhile to post what I found. They do not have internal anodes so it's one less thing to worry about!

2008 Mercury 60 FOURSTROKE Internal Anodes

Does a c.2008 Mercury 60-HP EFI FOURSTROKE engine have internal anodes? To determine if the Mercury 60 FOURSTROKE has the internal anodes, I have searched the parts diagrams and looked on line, but I did not find internal anodes mentioned. On outboard engines I own made by other manufacturers, there...

150 SPORT Bow Rail Mod

I have a 2008 150 Sport with a full bow railing, all welded construction. It's really nicely made and great for safety, but getting off the boat when it's beached bow in is difficult. I'm considering cutting the railing in two places, either on the starboard side near the bow or the very front part ...

Re: replacement steering wheel

I changed [the steering wheel] on a 2002 130 Sport. The essential requirement is a 3/4-inch tapered shaft with a keyway. Getting the old wheel off might be trouble. Use a wheel puller and plenty of PB BLASTER or other similar product. Something like this will fit: https://www.amazon.com/Amarine-made...

Re: 2003 Yamaha F225 with 900 Hours

I have the same rig, only 2004 vintage. The above comments are right on point but there's another thing to check- corrosion of the block at the thermostat. My port engine corroded through the block, squirted salt water into the air intake and I needed a new powerhead. Be sure to pull the tstats and ...

Re: Sapele and Mahogany Lumber Source, Uses

I used 13/16 sapele for the seats on a 13 ft. Found it a bit bouncy so I put a piece of it about 2in wide, on the bottom of the seat, to stiffen it. Glued and screwed it. Solid as a rock.

Re: 2004 130 Sport: Relocating Battery

I have a 2002 with a Suzuki 30-HP engine. I relocated the battery to the port side under the stern seat. The Suzuki engine had long battery cables, sufficiently long so I didn't need to modify them. [I] enclosed the cables in a corrugated plastic cover from the engine to the seat. I also added a ter...

I'm restoring a Boston Whaler boat that has the same non-skid which is damaged. Checked with Gibco Flex Mold: they don't have anything. I went to Michael's and bought flex mold latex. I just refinished an 81 with the Spectrum desert tan. I thinned it with styrene and sprayed it using a Preval sprayer. Came out great. I built up the area with the paste and finished it using the sprayer. After compounding and polishing it looked like new. Might be worth considering.
