An Outrage 18 would be a good boat for your needs, and they can be had for $5,000 and higher. Personally I think five is too many people for a Montauk 17, which typically sports a 90-HP outboard.

I called Boston Whaler directly regarding these seats. I forgot who manufactures these seats, but they manufacture them exclusively for Boston Whaler; they are not available directly from the manufacturer. Your best bet is to call Sue at Twin Cities.

Gas Oil Ratio for Evinrude 88 Special

Per the Seloc Johhson/Evinrude Outboards Repair Manual, the gas to oil ratio should be 50:1. Is this the prevailing ratio in practice, or do some prefer a richer ration of perhaps 30:1? The engine is a 1993 Evinrude 88 Special.

I've owned both and the 16' Dauntless is significantly more capable handing the chop and rougher seas and the additional storage is a nice bonus. If you can, find one with a 115hp as I thought the 90hp was a bit underpowered.

Just last week I asked a Boston Whaler dealer how the ride of the legacy Outrage 270 compares to that of the Dauntless 270. He stated that the Dauntless 270 "probably has a better ride because it is a newer hull design".

I doubt the hull characteristics have changed that drastically.
