Re: Total loss of our Boston Whaler Nauset
We had our 1982 Montauk 17 and 1998 Merc 115 insured for an agreed upon value of $10,000 with Progressive. During Hurricane Isaias, waves came over transom and the pump couldn't keep up. The 22 gallon fuel tank under RPS floated and gauge/cap broke and water (apparently, salt water according to the ...

Re: 1982 Montauk 17 Weight
Got ya. I knew the weight of the extra person and the fuel load in the car was within a couple of gallons. My concern was in the hundreds of pounds things seemed to be off, not 10 or 20 here and there but you are right about doing it your way for the most accuracy. ASIDE: I just got a call from the ...

Re: 1982 Montauk 17 Weight
I know the use of two different scales throws an unknown into the equation. I assumed, without any real basis, that [the accuracy of the two different scales] would be close. Maybe I'll go back to the original scale in the spring with my new Merc 115 4 stroke. If so, I'll report back. These scales a...

1982 Montauk 17 Weight
[In order to deduce the weight of a 1982 MONTAUK 17 boat,] I weighed my tow vehicle and [empty] trailer at 5,040-lbs. Then on a different scale (but provided by the same company), I re-weighed with the 1982 Montauk 17 [on the trailer]. [From the second scale weight] the fuel weight and the weight of...

Re: Cost of ENERTIA Propeller
Holy smokes! $686 on Amazon for that Enertia propeller.
I expected to pay about half that for a decent propeller. I think the current propeller's cost was in that range, or not much more.
Also, the Enertia [literature] says [that propeller is] recommended for [engines of] 135-HP and above.

MONTAUK 17 with Mercury 115 FOURSTROKE
[The engine on a 1982 MONTAUK (probably a 17) boat] is a 1998 Mercury 115-HP with a recommended maximum 5,250 RPM. [The 1982 MONTAUK boat] is going to be re-powered with a new Mercury 115 [probably a FOURSTROKE] with WOT range of 5000 to 6000-RPM. [The old engine used] what is believed to be a 13-1/...

Salvage Value of MONTAUK Damaged in Storm
What is the salvage value of a 1982 MONTAUK boat damaged in a storm? BACKSTORY: As the result of a recent storm, the fuel tank [on a 1982 MONTAUK 17 was contaminated with] saltwater. Waves coming over the transom overwhelmed the bilge pump, and the fuel tank began to float. The floating tank hit the...

Re: Blue Decked Whalers
OP here. Mea culpa for not taking pictures. We own a [1982] Montauk so this one caught our eyes as we walked by the showroom. I don't recall if it was just the deck or the entire cockpit that was light blue. My best recollection is the entire cockpit. This is a beautiful boat and I'm surprised the d...

2020 170 MONTAUK II in Whalertowne Blue
I was in Annapolis this weekend and stopped in the Boston Whaler dealer [later revealed to be Chesapeake Whalertowne' s Annapolis store] just for kicks. They had a [2020 170 MONTAUK II] on display with a [custom gel coat color blue hull liner]. [A sales representative] said] there were only three ma...

Re: New to Boating and New Whaler Owner
A Coast Guard or other safety course is the bare minimum. I was a marine police many officer years ago. I left that job for a land based law enforcement career and was away from boating for [more than] 20 years. I then bought a 17' Montauk (same as my old patrol boat- love it!) and had to take a saf...

Re: 1982 Montauk 115 HP
The current prop is a Quicksilver 13" x 19". One guy recommended a Stiletto 13 1/4" X 19 " SS but elsewhere I've read to drop 2" in pitch when going SS.

Re: 1982 Montauk 115 HP
I don't have the numbers handy and the boat is in winter storage. I'm not sure if the increased cost of SS would justify any increase in performance. The tach says 5200 WOT which is right on the numbers for this motor. From what I've been reading, dropping 2" in pitch when going to SS seems to ...

1982 Montauk 115 HP
[This inquiry seeks advice about propeller selection for a 1982 Boston Whaler MONTAUK with a 115-HP Mercury outboard engine using the infamous 2+2 displacement on demand method--jimh] No flames about the engine please. It came with the boat and runs fine. The current aluminum propeller has a bunch o...
