Source for Boston Whaler Decals
I need replacement Boston Whaler logo decals for port and starboard side of a1988 Sport 13. I see decals are available at Nauset Marine. Q1: is NAUSET MARINE a good source for an OEM quality product? Q2: what size is correct? Q3: is decal removal with a heat gun and a plastic edge a good method? Q4:...

Re-installation of Screw Fastners Into Existing Holes
On a 1988 Sport 13 I'm about to reinstall the wood after refinishing. I believe this is the first time the screws have been removed. Q1:Once a screw fastener has been removed from the Unibond hull of a 1988 SPORT 13 Boston Whaler boat that once retained some wood component of the boat, is a complete...

Application of Varnish on Two Sides
I'm refinishing the mahogany on my 1988 SPORT 13. I've sanded the original parts to bare wood. I've applied the [first of eight] thinned coat of Epifanes clear gloss. Q1 : should I apply all eight coats on one side then flip? Q2: or should I apply varnish to both sides with each coat? wood.jpg

Re: 1988 SPORT 13 Navigation Lamp
I called Nauset Marine and was quoted over $300 [for the OEM bi-color combined sidelights lamp used by Boston Whaler]. [The navigation lamp] certainly appears to be top quality, chrome over bronze, and for that price I hope it would be. Specialty Marine has one in 316 stainless for $120. I'll have t...

Re: Method of Indicating Federal Hull Identification number
I tried to determine the build date of my 1988 SPORT 13. Using the stenciled serial number Boston Whaler was able to provide the correct HIN. On the bill of sale I received when buying the boat the listed HIN was different, perhaps a typographical error. The actual metal HIN tag on the exterior star...

My last name begins with an S. When spelling my name on the phone, I often get correspondence spelled with an F instead of a S.

Re: Federal Hull Identification Number for 1988 13-footer
I received a speedy reply from Boston Whaler. Hi Samual Thank you for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, the records, schematics, and details from many boats that are non-current and out of production are very limited. However, using the stencil ID number you provided, I was able to determine the th...

Re: Federal Hull Identification Number for 1988 13-footer
Thank you for your research. I really appreciate it. The [model designation] on the Johnson outboard, J30ELCCE, indicates a 1988 engine. Perhaps the engine is the original.
Figure 1 shows the boat and the engine.

I mistook the letter S as a 5. The HIN on my form should be BWCM1036S788.

The HIN used to pay the sales tax: BWCM10365788.
The cockpit and deck of this boat are white.
Q2: what would a molded number look like?
Q3: is it on the outside of the transom?
Q4: any specific location?

Federal Hull Identification Number for 1988 13-footer
On my 1988 13-footer there is a metal tag on starboard side of the transom, but I cannot read any numbers. The marina that sold me the boat gave a HIN for it. Also, I do not see a molded number inside the hull. Perhaps I don't know where to look. There is a stenciled number on the inner stern direct...

Re: Four Question on Boat Electrical Problems
[The RULE 500-GPH] pump [that is the topic of this discussion] has a built-in water sensor to [control the] start and stop [of the pump motor. I'm confident in the wiring, which is direct-to-battery with a watertight in-line fuse. The "replacement" RULE 500-GPH pump ran for about one summe...

Four Question on Boat Electrical Problems
Q1: what is a reliable pump that can be used to replace a RULE 500-[GPH] pump? BACK STORY [Sometime prior to now] I purchased a RULE 500-[GPH] pump. It failed soon after being installed. The seller exchanged it for another new pump; that pump failed on Thursday, September 21, 2023. The battery termi...
