Skeg Replacement
Hi All, This is a tough one to admit to. My son and I were boating in Lake Champlain this past weekend. We were having a great time when on the last day there we ran into an "uncharted" rock. We were doing about 20 mph and tore the skeg right off the 2 1/2 year old Evinrude E-Tec 90. Ugh! ...

Jim, I did not plan my trip to coincide with the whales. It was the only time that I could go. It turns out that the Belugas are there year round. Apparently they move a little further out into the Saint Lawrence during the winter, but they can still be seen. Spring, summer and fall they are in the ...

Good morning all, Thanks so much for all of your advice. I would highly recommend the trip to the Saguenay Fjord, it is a spectacular place. It took about nine hours to make the trip towing the 1988 Montauk "Always an Adventure". My son and I left after work on a Thursday night and spent t...

Boating in Eastern Canada, St. Lawrence
Good afternoon all, I hope that you are all enjoying the summer and getting out on your Whalers. My son and I are interested in towing my 1988 Montauk up to the Saguenay - Saint Lawrence Marine park in Quebec, Canada. The boat is all ready to go and the trailer was just outfitted with new tires and ...

Hi. I installed a swim platform from Martin Marine (http://www.martinmarinedesign.com/monta ... tform.html) on my Montauk last year. It works great. Has a folding three step ladder and rails to grab on to. May solve all of your problems.

I have had a Mills bimini on my 1988 Montauk for a number of years. It is an extremely well made product, easy to install and deploy. It has held up very well over the years. i always keep the cover on it when not in use. My suggestion would be to go for the Mills.

Re: E-TEC Top-mount Remote Control Too Large
You are correct in that it is slightly too large for the mounting position on the Montauk console. My installer made a black Starboard mounting panel that overhangs fore and aft just a bit. It keeps the bopttom of the control unit sealed, loooks ok, and works just fine.

Wondering what you all do to store your anchor/chain/rode to prevent gel-coat damage. For years now i have stored mine in a 2 1/2 gallon bucket in the forward locker. Thanks all for your suggestions. I went with the Smith-brand 60-inch-tall PVC-covered metal guides. So far, my experience with them has been great. Jefecinco, I cant seem to find the trailer mounted ratchets on the BassPro website. Do you have a link? Will they stand up to repeated dunking in salt water? Sounds like a great idea.
