Sound like the best thing will be to order a new steering system, as suggested above.

[Who is a] good [retailer] to order from? I want quality parts and fair pricing. Thank you for any suggestions.

Do you have a preferred [retailer] to order [new steering system components] from?

[This 1998 MONTAUK 17] boat was a fresh water boat all its life—over 200 original hours—until I hauled it up to Maine. Now the saltwater use for the last three years has been minimal.

Thanks for the help.

Hard Steering

We only use the [1998 MONTAUK 17 with 90-HP two-stroke-power-cycle engine] for a few months in saltwater, and then it sits until next summer. I thought I did a good job winterizing in 2019. In preparation for summer 2020, I found the steering was locked up hard and it took days to free it up. This m...

I’ll chime in, we have a [1998] Montauk 17 with the original 90-HP engine. CASCO bay is our boating ground here in Maine and the 17 is a perfect first boat that you might very well keep for awhile. It will do fine for your use.

Repair of Damage to Gel Coat Layer on Hull Bottom

I wasn't paying attention and ran the boat onto on some submerged rocks--at slow speed, thankfully. Until I pulled the boat off the grinding was disheartening. After siting at the dock in saltwater for a couple days, I pulled the boat. I saw some gouges on the bottom. One spot is the size of a penci...

Need for Bottom Paint for Three Months in Saltwater

[My 1998 MONTAUK 17 boat has] never had any [bottom paint] applied. [Applying bottom paint] seems to be a bit of a job, prepping the hull, marking the water line (while in the cold water), figuring out right paint, lifting the boat to get all the places, and so on. Re: Mercury 90-HP Aural Alert Sounds

I think I unplugged the "overheat" sensor wire coming off the head: nothing changed.

I then unplugged one of the two wires coming from the bottom of the oil reservoir which I assume is an oil level sensor: the noise stopped.

Rather than have a custom console cover made made for my Boston Whaler MONTAUK 17, I thought I would try to find a less expensive pre-made cover for the helm. I only need it for four months.

Are any of you are happy with what you bought?

Hello all. [I am] new to Boston whalers but not to boating. I just bought a pristine 1998 MONTAUK 17 with a [1998 Mercury 90-HP two-stroke-cycle engine].
