Re: Using Photovoltaic Panel to Maintain Boat Battery

Phil T: the boat is an OUTRAGE 18.

Bow platform sounds interesting. I'm assuming the panel would be stowed when under way.

How might panel be secured when boat is tied up at float?

In this configuration the bow platform is largely taken up by a hatch cover.

Thanks for your input.

Re: Using Photovoltaic Panel to Maintain Boat Battery

I appreciated the helpful input. During the boating season we tie up at the float of our own dock, but there is no practical access to electric power there. The sump pump is wired to only battery and by-passes the battery switch. Would mounting something on the float itself be crazy? Any idea what p...

Using Photovoltaic Panel to Maintain Boat Battery

Is it practical to use a Photovoltaic panel to maintain a 12-Volt boat battery? Where would you install one on a open center console boat like [what was later clarified to be an 18-foot] c.1989 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE? BACKSTORY Sometime two weeks will elapse between use of the boat. The boat has an a...

Trailer Bunk Inward Tilt for OUTRAGE 18 Hull

In preparation for winter storage of my 1989 Whaler 18, I recently removed the 8-foot bottom bunks of my trailer to re-carpet them and recondition or replace as needed the rusted upright and swivel brackets that the bottom bunks are attached to. I was careful to replace this support hardware at the ...

Re: Repowering 1989 Outrage 18

I understand the economics of the fuel usage/payback concept and the beauty of keeping things simple with the two stroke that's running OK. One of the factors in re-powering is the desire to have hydraulic steering instead of cable, and although I'm told it's possible to do that on my 1989 150, for ...

Repowering 1989 Outrage 18

[I have] been running my 1989 Outrage 18 with the 1989 Yamaha 150-HP two-stroke-power-cycle engine it came with when I bought it used about 10 years ago. This 1989 Yamaha 150-HP engine runs fine, but is not very fuel efficient. The 1989 OUTRAGE 18 has mechanical cable steering that gets cranky from ...

Re: Re-powering 1989 Outrage 18

Shadburke, Jim, Phil, Rich:
Thank you all for your extremely helpful comments.
Phil: (1) what do you think would be a reasonable price for the used Yamaha 115 installed with all the listed equipment?
and (2) what do you think re-building the carburetors on the 150 might cost?

Re-powering 1989 Outrage 18

I purchased [a 1989 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 18] hull over a decade ago with [1989] Yamaha 150. We use it primarily for relaxed cruising in tidal rivers and interconnected waterways of mid-coastal Maine--nothing far off-shore. The engine rarely gets above 4,000-RPM, but like the speed when we need it. ...

1989 Outrage railing diameter and fender brackets

Anyone know offhand the diameter of the bow and side railings on a 1989 Outrage? Currently too distant from where my boat is stored to measure myself. Also, looking for recommendation on simple, reliable fender brackets compatible with railing diameter to enable quick fender height adjustment as nee...
