Jim, you can see another hull registration number on the port bow, start with a CF, not sure what that additional number on the boat designates.

Canso is about halfway between the equator and the pole, so would lose about 500 MPH Jim. It would take more fuel to get the thrust needed. My 2001 130HP Honda has a kill switch, the key and controls on my motor are minimal and from my owner's manual the kill switch appears to be a standard item on Honda's in 2001. I would say a good chance this boat had a kill switch.

I would also guess that the profit margin on a 300-HP and higher outboard is higher than on the smaller motors, so it likely contributes more than 20-percent of the profit, especially for Brunswick when a Merc is "sold" on a new Whaler.

I would guess its the torque and torque curve that would determine the useful power of this outboard. It makes 82 ft lbs from 2000-3000 rpm, which is where planing occurs. So far, I moved it up one notch, it got rid of most of the excessive spray and seems more stable at top end. I wasn't able to try it with flat water as before, but I did get another 100 RPM to 5800 and 40MPH. I'll try it up another notch when I get a chance. It comes up on plane fast and accelerates...

If you want to remove your stainless and use a buffing wheel, it can be made to look like new. I had a 59 El Camino and used this process, it worked great. I've also used 0000 steel wool to gently remove rust stains on stainless, just go slowly.

What are the dimensions of the original [fuel] tank [for a 1986 Outrage 18]?

What is the depth?

I need a new mechanical fuel tank gauge. Mine has a five-bolt flange on the tank. I believe some have a 4 bolt.

See how easy it is to learn stuff? I'm not arguing because I am wrong. I just thought the Nantucket was not an Outrage since they didn't call it an Outrage for some reason. They had bigger Outrages in 2004, why didn't they names the 190 model an Outrage if it was the same hull?

Was there a 190 Outrage in 2004?

There was a Nantucket 190 which weighed 2050-lbs; a 2017 Outrage 190 weighs 2050-lbs.

Another weird thing--to me at least--the 2017 190 Montauk weighs 1900-lbs, less than the 2004 Nantucket which became the Montauk 190 later.

These are all dry weights.

From what I found the dry weight is the same, 2050 lbs, so one would think the hulls are the same.

Sounds like it goes away after it warms up? Sounds electronic, if you have changed all possible sources of fuel starvation. A sensor?

1986 Outrage 18 with 2001 Honda BF130

Has anyone had any experience with [a 1986 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 18 boat] with [a 2001 HONDA BF130] outboard?

The Honda BF130 weighs about 500-lbs from what I can find. They seem to work well, and anyone who has one seems pleased.

Are they a good combination?

My recommendation is to sand/clean off all the old finish and apply 5-10 coats of a very good quality finish like Epifanes. Maake sure you get all the old stuff off.

There is a nut you can buy for the port end of the tube, it replaces the stock one and has a grease nipple. The extra grease nipple helps a lot.
