Re: Evinrude 140-HP Misfire

Thanks Robert, I do run Seafoam a couple of times a year in everything I own with a carb.

Re: Evinrude 140-HP Misfire

I should add, I only started wrenching on anything about 13 years ago, I work in an office and never get my hands dirty. But I enjoy figuring out mechanical things.

Re: Evinrude 140-HP Misfire

I do have the Clymer B733 EJ 91-94 Manual. I think I looked for the shop manual at the time and then bought this when I couldn't find one. My concern with working on a 2 stroke outboard is a lack of familiarity with the whole setup. Multi carbs, a charge coil, power coil, 8 sensor coils, power pack,...

Re: Evinrude 140-HP Misfire

That is very helpful Robert.

The engine has likely seen hard use in saltwater. I bought it with the Guardian two years ago.

Evinrude 140-HP Misfire

My 1994 [Evinrude 140-HP outboard engine that employs] loop-charging has a misfire. [The Evinrude 140-HP engine] would normally [accelerate to] 5,500-PRM, but now only [accelerates to] 4,000-RPM. It sounds like it has one cylinder not firing, and one spark plug is very black. The spark plugs are new...

1996 Outrage 25 Commercial Hull Navigation lights?

[Seeks] a source for the port and starboard sidelight lamps [for a 1996 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 25 commercial version hull]. What is on there now is original. One has busted off completely. Looking for a proper replacement. I guess the originals were black pot metal.

Thanks,
Don

Re: 1994 V4 140HP Evinrude Fuel Water Separator

I used a bit of grease on the spin on on the rubber seal and tried your advice to hold the bulb up and down: still no result. I figured all the bulb is doing is acting as a syphon to get fuel from the tank to the motor, so I removed the bulb and tried my lower unit lube fill pump. It fit nicely &quo...

1994 V4 140HP Evinrude Fuel Water Separator

I changed my spin-on fuel-water separator, and now I can't get any fuel pressure with the bulb. I pre-filled the new separator with fuel being installing it. Should the bulb pump up like normal? I had not yet started my boat this season. Would the next logical step be to change-out the fuel line and...

1994 V4 Evinrude 140 Trim

I have a Clymer manual and it says to check fluid level [in the power trim system you should]: Tilt the outboard to the fully up position and engage the tilt lock support. Does that mean you check fluid level [in the power trim system when the outboard engine has been tilted to the] fully up [positi...

Re: Capsize of M/Y BAADEN at Launch: NTSB Report

Looks to me like the ballast was all wrong, she didn't really try to right herself all all, that hull was floating from the start. Unless they had no water under the trailer and boat and it just laid over? When you launch a boat, it floats off the trailer eventually, that hull's ballast was too ligh...
