A 170 Montauk on a dock nearby had rainwater accumulate after several storms last year. It was holding about as much as the hull would hold. The rear end tends to squat when filled, and the water was just about flowing in and out over the transom. Obviously, the bilge pump was no longer working. It ...

You’re correct.
However, when you compare the two boats, the 2019 130 SS rides SO much better than the old classic 13, and still does over 32 mph with 40 hp.

Jkcam--the 150 Montauk actually has the deeper hull/keel at 16 degrees vs the Super Sport at 14 degrees. Both boats weight 950-lbs dry. We have a 2008 150 Montauk with the Mercury 60 EFI BigFoot. Dutch--agreed! A 70-HP would be a good performer on the 17 Montauk.
Way back, I had a 1964 17 Nauset with a Mercury 70 two-stroke engine: a good balance with more than adequate power.
The only downside: it was WET--not nearly as dry as our 150 Montauk boats.

How about a 250 Montauk? With a 250-300 Verado (Of course the price would be rediculous, it's a Whaler)
What a platform for anything! And a "real" head in a stand-up console.

Ideally yes. The hydrofoil is attached to the anti-ventilation plate, and in virtually all cases of planing hulls, the plate should be above the water line when on full plane. It is very common to have the plate just below the water, which affects performance. When I say above, it's not by much. Oft...
