My 19 Bananas were self bailing. I did not keep a plug in except for the bow locker. My 1986 18' Outrage is not. My 1981 13' sport is not due to the stern weight. 16 & 17 model classics are not unless fitted with a very light engine. My Montauk would fill up to about the rps seat until the flow ...

There is some water in the rigging tunnel and possibly the tank cavity. It is common. Your pump should come on as the pump should be hard wired even if batteries are off. That is not how they did it back then, mine is on a switch.

If you think the helm is still good and was not wrestled with to get free, try cleaning the cable or just buy a new cable. Many people try and use the helm to free it and do damage to the teeth.

No. The steering cable screws onto the other side.

I would not mess with cleaning it all up and trying it out as that usually lasts a couple weeks.

On a 22-year-old boat I would buy the helm and the cable and change it out for under $200.

Your chalking problem is due to lack of wax. Easily cured with wax. Transom is probably not rotten. Repair and use a spreader bar to cover the small cracks and spread the stress over a larger area. They are like $20 or so.

I always ran my tank dry. It does not hurt the engine. If fuel injected, it may be hard to start and probably not the best for the injectors, so I would not make it a habit if EFI.

Pull the tach and see if it has pole settings, you will need to change that to a 4cyl. If not switchable, you probably need a new tach.
