Is the 235 Conquest equipped with a battery powered refrigerator? If so, when the refrigerator is in use it draws significant power from the battery bank. Cruisers equipped with a refrigerator often use a third battery to handle "house" loads.

The tilt tube on our engines are parallel with the transom. Therefore the steering cable enters the tilt tube from the starboard side of the engine. I've not yet seen a tilt tube that faces fore and aft. I'm fairly certain the picture of the engine on the boat has a side facing tilt tube?

A 1999 Montauk is little different than a new 170 Montauk. The newer 115 HP Yamaha is probably a more reliable engine. Sell the older, non-classic, Montauk 17. I seriously doubt it has yet reached sufficient maturity to have any additional value due to its age.

I assume [the acronym you used] is an abbreviation for Verado. A 250-HP Verado should be sufficient power for the activities you listed. I once had a MUCH heavier 240 SeaRay with 260-HP stern drive and the power was just fine for that boat.

I completely agree that no Montauk is a great choice for boating in rough conditions. Although the boat will tolerate a lot of abuse our bodies will not. I think it's fair to say no recreational Boston Whaler is a very suitable boat in rough conditions.
