Re: Evinrude E-TEC G2 Outboard Future
Are sales of G2 vs the standard models enough to warrant a full production press of the G2? I don't see it happening with intensity. Last time I rode around the local lake, river, and Charleston, SC harbor, I didn't see a single G2 on anything. I did see plenty of fairly new standard ETECS, which I ...

Re: 1969 13-footer Father-Son Restoration
My son and I fished out of and enjoyed an older 13 with 25HP Johnson for a summer....lots of fun. Only thing I wished it had was power trim on the motor...lifting (tilting) that thing up and down manually was not as easy as pressing a button. I like the idea of the higher transom, too. My 13 had the...

Re: 1988 Montauk Evinrude Re-power
Hi Bob, I've repowered a few 17s over the years with new 90-HP engines, one in 1987, and another in the 1990's. One was put on a 1971 Whaler and the other on a 1975 Whaler 17. Those motors weighed in around 315-lbs, if memory serves, and were a great match for my 17-footers, which by the way is a fa...

Re: Evinrude E-TEC 135 H.O. Re-power for Outrage 18/19
Well, I don't ever plan to use anything but XD-100, so shouldn't be a problem. I was able to pick up a few extra gallons of it at a good deal with a special Evinrude sale coupon, so I figure I'm good for a few more years of running until it goes to the dealer for a check up. Yeah, the dealer did tel...

Re: Evinrude E-TEC 135 H.O. Re-power for Outrage 18/19
Friends, the attached picture is a sticker on my console door...put there when I took delivery of my new 2015 150 HO ETEC (18 Guardian). Dealer told me that is what he programmed the motor to run on...told me not to use anything else unless it was reprogrammed. As I wrote above, I'm really pleased w...

Re: Evinrude E-TEC 135 H.O. Re-power for Outrage 18/19
I bought a new 2015 ETEC 150 HO for my Guardian 18. When I took delivery, the dealer had set the motor computer for the XD-100 oil, which we discussed on the front end. He told me I could not use anything but XD-100 since the motor was set for that oil. He did say he could reset it for another type ...

Lighter with the same HP would seem to be a plus.
Which weighs more?
What is cost difference?
The 15 is a fantastic Whaler.

Re: Super Console Woodwork
Wow, very nice work! Nice wood grain selection, too.
If in the sun a lot, I might would choose oil vs varnish, but varnish is prettier I think.
Thanks fit sharing...be sure and post again once finished and mounted. Love those 25s. Thanx, mav

Re: John Greviskis Throws Evinrude Under the Bus
Before this posting, I had never even heard of this fellow, so my opinion of his opinion is probably the same he would have of mine...diddly. I bought a new 2015 ETEC 150 HO for my Guardian 18, and could not be happier with quality, performance, price, and overall installation A-Z. I doubt I will ev...

Re: 18 Dauntless, Suzuki 140-HP
Good morning, Masbama, The Dauntless is a nice looking boat, and new motor shopping is quite an order! That said, I recently repowered my 1987 Guardian 18 with a new (2015) ETEC 150 HO. I believe my boat has weight similar to the Dauntless at around 2,000 pounds--actually I think my Guardian might b...

Re: Show Us Your Whaler
Wow nice looking [DIVEMASTER 17]. First one like that I've ever seen. The 17 hull is already great. I've had several regular 17-foot [Boston Whaler boats] and enjoyed them very much. I have the 18 Guardian pictured in the "Show Us Your Whaler] thread and fully appreciate your 17. admirable boat...

Re: 1987 GUARDIAN 18 Re-power
Update: just turned over 20 hours on this new motor. "Performane perfection" it has been...very pleased. Have used about 1 gallon of XD100 oil for the intial 20 hours. Dealer said it would use less after "break in" although technically already broken in at purchase but programmed...

Fuel tank replacement, Guardian 18
In the process of restoring my 1987 Guardian 18, which had been in service by law enforcement just prior to my purchase in early 2014, I removed the console, leaning post, floor, and fuel tank. In this short post, I'll focus on my fuel tank, which some here may find of interest. The top exterior of ...

Re: Show Us Your Whaler
Good morning all, and happy Thanksgiving. I bought this 1987 Guardian 18 a few years ago - it had many bumps, bruises, and heavy use from being a patrol boat, but was solid and had a dive door, which I found to be highly desireable (and very unusual) for an 18. I restored it by disassembling much of...

Re: 1987 GUARDIAN 18 Re-power
Hi Thunder, I have a similar Guardian 18 and recently repowered with a new ETEC 150 HO. Thanks to Jim on this website, I learned of Evinrude's special offers, and was able to make a great deal. I recommend that you read this older article/string on the old CW forum as it will give you some ideas, ma...
