2012 210 Montauk, Verado 200

Nice boat. There are two versions: the Verado 200 and 200 Pro. Both would be admirable. See this performance report for comparison of the 150, 200 Verado, and 200 Verado Pro:

Re: c.2002 Mercury 40-HP

Thanks Jim. I admit, it was a strange query . Rick, my son-in-law, unfortunately lost his Dad recently. His Dad had a 2002 130 Sport with a 40 hp 2-stroke. Rick grabbed some old pictures and place an ad, trying to sell the boat. He called me and asked if the 40hp 2-stroke had T&T. I had no idea,...

c.2002 Mercury 40-HP

In model year 2002 did Boston Whaler always equip the 130 Sport boats with a two-stroke-cycle Mercury 40-HP engine with power trim and tilt? Or, did some of those 2002 model year boats come without power trim?

Directly from my Mercury Manual: MODELS WITH POWER TRIM Operate your boat at normal cruising speed, trimmed to desired position. Turn your boat left and right and note the direction the boat turns more easily. If adjustment is necessary, loosen trim tab bolt and make small adjustments at a time. If ...

Re: Polyurethane Or Varnish

I agree with all jimh's points, especially if you desire protection in an area where water seems to remain. Other than that, for thwart seats etc. you can have excellent results with a quality varnish alone. The important feature for me was UV protection from the sun. I chose Pettit Flagship varnish...

Re: Re-finishing Mahogany

If you have sanded both sides down to bare wood, ALWAYS coat top and bottom. If you leave one side un coated, it will absorb moisture and expand, the coated side will not. This can result in warping of the board. On mahogany thwart seats that I have refinished, they were down to bare wood, and the f...

Re: 170 MONTAUK for Water Sports

The 170 Montauk (assuming proper set-up with correct prop etc.) with a fuel injected 90hp 4-stroke is one of the most versatile boats ANYWHERE. I've driven several, and they perform well with water sports. I have never witnessed wake boarding from one, and can't give an opinion on that. 170 Montauks...

I also use "Works" in the spray bottle, and it's hard to find. admirable scum line remover, and way cheaper than hull cleaner, but same active ingredient, oxalis acid. Be careful, COMPLETELY removes wax.
Works well mixed with white vinegar to stretch it.

Boston Whaler Boats Underpowered

It appears that some new Boston Whaler models have unexpected lower horsepower ratings compared to other manufacturers. I've often thought that Boston Whaler is in a unique position. The boat and the motor are a packaged deal, and they are also from the same parent company Brunswick. That combinatio...

Our 13 Super Sport acted exactly the same with our 2000 2-stroke Johnson 40. Once the boat lifts to plane and resistance is lowered, it always wanted to go like hell, and you needed a surgeons hand to feather the throttle back just enough to find a "sweet spot." I really hated that! The wo...

Re: 1993 MONTAUK 17 Re-power

I currently have (new to me) a 150 Montauk with a Mercury 60hp EFI 4-stroke BIGFOOT. I emphasize BIGFOOT with the larger gear case, and the ability to swing a 13 3/8" x 14"P stainless prop. More similar to the Yamaha T-60 with larger gear case. Montauk 17 vs 150 Montauk?? Yes, I know! Thes...

If you need it, send me your address and I'll send it off. HOWEVER, you will need to borrow a flaring tool and buy O-rings. See: http://continuouswave.com/u...

John B raises a good point. Buying supplies, your personal skill level, the final result and TIME all enter into the equation. On two different occasions, I've opted for the professional repair. Nauset Marine in Orleans on Cape Cod is a longtime large Boston Whaler dealer. The hull repair work is no...

Re: Trailer

For the 1987 Super Sport 13 we just sold, I used a Load-Rite 14F1000W. The price was $800 (my recollection) and it was perfect for a 13-footer. Really liked the tough composite fenders. Nice little trailer. However, I would strongly recommend ratchet tie downs, that attach to your Whaler aft lifting...

Re: Getting Stablized Fuel To Engine

I'm in complete agreement with Jimh. Today's engines run 4-10 miles per gallon depending upon size. That is at a normal running rate, not idling. To do this right, you need to run the boat for enough time to replace at least a full gallon of fuel. Now.....is this the end of the world? No. Each year,...

Next week, I plan on taking my 13-3/8 x 14 Mercury VENGEANCE stainless steel propeller to H & H Propeller in Salem, Massachusets for some minor repairs. I'll inquire about that SCDS four-blade SS from PowerTech. I can't wait to hear if anybody has tried one.

That Vengeance prop is 14-pitch.

One other note: I believe that Quicksilver brand are identical to Mercury propellers as far as metal quality and design. They don't have the fancy name recessed into the propeller, but otherwise are equal. According to my research, substantially less money.

Re: Whaler Drive v. Notched Transom

Wow, those are impressive numbers! Our 1988 Revenge W-T with notched transom, and 250 Yamaha OX66 would do 42 to 43-MPH--that's it. I think the single 300-HP with the Whaler Drive would do better than the 250-HP notched transom and reach over 45-MPH--Not bad! I think the higher rating for the Whaler...

Yes, I Understand your points of motor brand selection. For our purposes, the 150 is ideal. Hardly ever run wide open in our particular waters, and when I have opened her up, 35-MPH suits me fine. It's the dry, comfortable ride that sold me! As for engine selection: over the years I've owned Johnson...

I've had two moorings on Cape Cod for over 20 years. There has been at least one Whaler attached to these, at one time or other. Do this right, and NEVER worry. Let's assume you have a worthy, inspected mooring with adequate chain, swivels, and shackles. I highly recommend a Taylor Sur-mor mooring b...
