Re: 1984 15 Sport E-TEC 60 H.O. Mount Height
That's a heavy outboard for a 15. I'm sure in calm waters it'll be fine . . . I would highly recommend keeping the rest of the interior of the boat as light as possible. Have you considered a small set-back manual jackplate? I know it'll push the weigh even further back, but it would allow you to ad...

Re: Good Alternatives to Mahogany Wood
You could try 'Apitong'. It's often used in truck beds, or heavy equipment trailers. Looks similar to Mahogany and costs a lot less. It's not the easiest to finish, and pre-drilling holes is a must when screwing together pieces. It's been used in boat construction, and wears well outside. I believe ...

Re: Classic 15-footer with F70
If you're really looking to get maximum performance, you may want to consider a manual jackplate. A 4 or 5 inch setback is all you need, and you will be able to adjust the motor height further, and more precisely. I have a 1988 15 Boston Whaler, and when I originally purchased the boat it had a 'doe...

A three-blade propeller will get you the best top-end speed for sure. Something in 16-inch pitch will be a good starting point.

You are over-propped for your set-up. I made the same mistake when I re-powered from a Yamaha 70 two-stroke engine. The three-blade propeller that ended up working best for me was was a Yamaha Performance Series 13 1/4" x 16" ( MAR-GYT3B-V4-16) Keep in mind I added a significant additional...

Agree with you 100% Jim. I miss that dealership, even though they were a bit 'crusty' as times, their work was always top notch.
We have some boating trade-shows coming to our area in the coming weeks, I will try my best to get a price on the new Yamaha VMAX SHO 90 just out of curiosity.

In my opinion most of these H.O., SHO, ProXS, or SS models, are a combination of a workaround and a marketing tactic. I see this with Mercury and their ProXS designators. With the exception of Suzuki, all three manufactur...

Re: Spark Plug Indexing for Yamaha F70
How do you know the correct indexing position of the spark plug In terms of a clock hands, like 12-3-6-9?
I know there are four valves per cylinder on the Yamaha F70, so which position do you need to direct the plug?
I would assume you want the plug to point toward the intake valves.

I believe what often happens is a Boston Whaler boat owner spends $400 for a set-back bracket, takes a lot of time and labor to install it, and then really never completely evaluates what effect it has had. After all the time and expense of installing one, there is a bias toward finding it has impr...
