Re: Taking Pictures of your Boat
This thread is timely Jim. I am making it a point to get a new DSLR camera and to start taking new photos this summer. Not just of my boat, but others as well. It's a passion I have that I need to start doing more of.

GEP, Actually the oldest known hull is hull #FP55 which was owned by Milehighwhaler and sold to Mike Stennett here in Detroit. FP stands for Fisher Pierce meaning it was one of the hulls before prior to Boston Whaler officially launching in 1958...and it was the 55th prototype 13 made and was likely...

With only 1/2" plywood under the deck and in limited spaces, I personally would not put a T-Top on unless I did a system of epoxy anchors into the floor that could be drilled into to set screws into.

I would be willing to bet that there is water in your foam still. Especially if at one time there were failed thru-hulls . That said, I would bet a sizable sum of money that there is not a classic Whaler out there that has been used that does not have some sort of elevated moisture somewhere in the ...

I suspect that this is truly framed in an archival method this the article artifact is lightly attached to a backer at the top two corners thus allowing the piece to float as it hangs. Jim--I only keep the tape on for a short time. When the gel-coat or resin begins to kick-off and firms up there is no need for the tape because the material will hold in place after that point.

Jim, I have never had a problem with that. The air is not what causes or activates curing. It is a chemical reaction. Look at all the boat companies that are now vacuum bagging complete hulls in air tight sealed molds with zero atmosphere (no air).

You have to drill them out. However, if all the screws and wood are currently in good condition, there is no reason you should remove them to refinish the part.

Re: Are these dowels or just covers for screw heads???
They are caps covering counter sunk screws. That was how all the whaler wood pieces where made.
I would not break your wood parts done that far to refinish. They were in place and like then when it was varnished at the factory. Just disassemble the large pieces and refinish it that way.

Chris, I guess it is just a personal thing that I have just never liked Penetrol.
I use the gear lube because if it's viscosity. I tried other lighter weight oils and found that gear lube was the only one after a few hours that kept a uniform film over the surface. Others would start to bead up.

Floater,
Here is a run down of the Meguiars products. I use all of the Mirror Glaze Compounds. All of the compounds are in the tan colored bottles.
For 3M Super Duty is the heavy cut and Perfect it is the medium cut. Finesse it is only for surfaces that are already heavily polished.

Jack,
If you already temporarily patched it, you will just need to smooth the patch out, rough up the surface and gel-coat patch over the top of it.
