Capsize At Mavericks
[Two threads discussing the same short recording have been combined into a single thread.--jimh] A video was posted of a 190 Montauk being overturned at the Mavericks surf spot (near Santa Cruz, California). Looking at the captain as his boat overturns, makes me wonder why he wasn't looking towards ...

190 Montauk: Storing Water Skis
We do everything with our 190 Montak: fish, ski, and cruise. We normally leave the skis on the deck, but it's not a very elegant way to store them.
Is there a water ski storage rack for the rails on a Montauk?

Re: General Winterizing and Storage
I ended up storing [the 2017 Boston Whaler Montauk 190] at a big RV and boat storage facility, indoor, but not heated. [Off-site storage] gets [the boat] out of my driveway, keeps [the boat away] from snow and sun wear-and-tear, and keeps me from wishing I was boating.

Re: General Winterizing and Storage
I did the winterization today: I tried to run the engine (150 Merc) in a large tub, but it was too shallow, so I ended up cutting a 55 gallon drum and filling that about 3/4 to run the engine. I don't have muffs, and WalMart didn't have any in stock! I changed the oil after running the engine for 10...

General Winterizing and Storage
The weather forecast looks like we are about done boating for the season here in Colorado, so I'll be winterizing the engine this weekend. It's a new 150 Mercury on my 190 Montauk. I have a few questions: I'm changing oil, oil filter, fuel filter, lower unit gear oil, and putting fuel stabilizer in ...

Capsize At Jupiter Inlet
I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to boating. This video [linked below that shows a boat trying to enter Jupiter Inlet in Florida] made me think: what went wrong here? The boat looks pretty low in the water, especially the bow. Could this happen to a Boston Whaler? https://www.instagram.com/p/Baz5...

Re: Montauk 210 Thoughts
By the way, there's a 210 Montauk (used) for sale at my local dealer. Very low hours (58 hours) with a 200HP Verado engine. Might be something to consider. $47k asking price. I have no interest in this sale, but they are the dealer I bought my 190 Montauk from and the owner was quite helpful during ...

You guys might enjoy this.... I stopped into a Mercury dealer near my house. Mercury sign out front. Mercury parts hanging all over the place, mercury oil, fluids, filters, etc. I asked the two guys at the counter if they had the VesselView mobile module for my 2017 Merc 150. The guys looked at each...

Re: How low should I allow fuel tank to run (190 Montauk)
How about keeping a 5 gal jug on board and running it completely out while on the water, add the 5 gallons, then do the fuel-dock idea that JimH mentioned? I'm hesitant to run it too close to empty, even though our lakes are quite small. I'll look into the smartcraft gauge pkg as well.. Jefecinco - ...

190 MONTAUK Fuel Tank Level Gauge; Fuel Management
Had a nice evening on the water yesterday around dusk, skiing and snacking with the family. I don't have confidence in the fuel tank level as shown on the gauge on the 190 Montauk. The 190 Montauk should carry 60 gallons of fuel when full. It seems that a 1/2-FULL tank lasts forever, then it rapidly...

A bit of a background... our 190 Montauk is our first-ever power boat, so we are learning how everything works and trying to gain competence in all things power boating. We did do a fair amount of sailing on boats ranging from 20' to 45' with a sailing club about 20 years ago. We just got back from ...

By the way, I think Continuous Wave is mostly power boat Whaler discussions. That being said, I personally think all Whaler owners should be welcome here, as we a...

Not sure it would bring that kind of money, but they are somewhat collectible / desirable. I'd think closer to $1200 for that boat with original rigging. That being said, paying $2k for that setup is good cost/fun value ratio! I have a 1979 Harpoon 5.2 and would hope to get $2,000 for it. I have new...

Butch - I was looking to go with the "stock" prop that comes on the 190 Montauk, as I'll be traveling to sea level and it was recommended that I swap from my 15 pitch to something higher in pitch. I figured the stock one would be a good starting place. I could try them out, but we'll be on...

Looking to buy a new propeller for our 190 Montauk w/ the Merc 150. The stock is the 14.5" diameter, 17 pitch, so I thought I'd find something very close to that. Stainless or aluminum is fine. Let me know if you have one!

That's an excellent (and correct) guess. He also "gave" me an anchor. Probably a bit undersized Danforth.
Thanks for the advice, we'll pop for some bigger ones.

Re: 190 Montauk w/ 150HP Merc. engine mount height
We did some more data gathering at the (8200' altitude lake) yesterday. Lightly loaded (me and my 13 year old son) achieved 39 mph with glassy conditions. Figuring that we are down about 39 HP due to altitude, that seems about right. We experimented with trim, but didn't spend a whole lot of time at...

190 MONTAUK: Where to Attach Fenders If No Bow Railing
We are new to power boating and have a new Montauk 190. It has no bow rail due to having the trolling motor electrical hookups on the bow. (This factory option deletes the bow rail). How would you go about attaching fenders up closer towards the bow? On a slip with docks on both sides, it's a non-is...

We fished today at the 8200' altitude lake and with 5 guys on board, didn't get much above 32 mph. We had some wind an very light chop, though, so it wasn't a good scientific test. I'm looking forward to seeing how she does at sea level! It'll be a different boat. (only one lake trout and one rainbo...

Re: 190 Montauk w/ 150HP Merc. engine mount height
Thanks Butch. I'll work on trim and do some testing this weekend. The lakes we've visited so far, are relatively small, so doing a "speed run" and making small changes means we run out of lake pretty quick! We'll be up at 8200' this weekend on the boat, but it'll be a bigger lake, so we'll...

190 Montauk Engine Mounting Height
Our 2017 190 Montauk with the 150 Mercury outboard engine came with the engine mounted in the lowest position. I'm curious if that's the best place. We hit 39-MPH [speed over ground from GNSS receiver] on our last outing. The lake was at 5700-feet elevation, there were three on board, about half-ful...

All great answers. Thanks JimH.
I think it'd be pretty straighforward to add a second battery and a OFF-1-BOTH-2 battery switch like I'm accustomed to on sailboats.
Thanks again.

[I may buy] a new 190 Montauk and it has the split bow-rail option.
Are there reasons one might choose to order a boat without a bow rail?
If you choose a bow rail, why choose the split bow rail over the regular or vice versa?

Are you sure of that price of the 2004 Dauntless 180? For $13k, I'd buy 10 of them and profit $100,000. It seems to me that the '04 Dauntless would be in the $25k range for a nice boat.
