I bought my new aluminum/galvanized steel trailer new ~ 2006. I remember paying about $3100. Thought that was a lot back then but happy I bought quality. Mine is a Phoenix brand built East of the Mississippi River.

If I were sure I was going to buy a 170 Montauk that was in stock, I would offer the dealer a $350 non-refundable deposit to cover his cost if you changed your mind after a sea trial. If he did not take that offer I would look for another dealer.

I was looking over a mid-1980's Outrage 18 and the HIN tag was on the port side. I don’t remember all the details but hardware and console didn’t match the year in my mind. The thought came to me that maybe Boston Whaler put warrantied hulls HIN tags on the port side for some reason. Just my guess. ...

I have a back seat with storage boxes under on my Outrage 18. One battery and a oil tank for the old Johnson in splash well.

I raised mine because I was going to put a power tilt and trim motor on the boat. Most of those are 20”.
If you can buy a 15” motor I would not raise the transom. Just come off plan slower so as not to get pooped by the wake.

I emailed the best and only picture I have.
If I was setting up your trailer I would get the center 2 bunks set right. And then with the boat on the trailer move the out side bunks up to the bottom with the rig sitting in the parking lot.

My 1987 Outrage 18 trailer is 4 bunks also.
Keel bunks touch at forward end and about 18” apart at stern. I think this makes the boat load centered.
The starboard outer bunk needs to miss the sump drain.
Trial and error fitting is required.

If you are going to keep the boat for a while I would look for a Phoenix Trailer dealer in your area. Get a custom all bunk aluminum any way you want it.

And keep an extra good eye out for junk floating around the lakes. I've have had many dock sections, logs, and pilings wash up on my beach that left some one else's beach.

I have seen a Montauk with the aqua anniversary graphics. The sun top was aqua also.

Butch, looking at the Garmin on line manual for your unit I see on page 84 is a touch screen recalibration. Maybe that is the problem.

I would think the trailer would work. May be some minor adjustments.
An all-bunk trailer will be fine. Apply silicon to the bunks if they aren't slippery enough for you. But don't unhook the winch strap until the boat is in the water.

Both of my Garmin hand helds are working. One is newer and fired right up. My older Garmin is always slow if it has sat for a while. The bad batteries may have had something to do with that too.

Get a trailer wide enough that the hull fits between the fenders.
A standard Montauk or 1980/90 Outrage 18 will fit in a standard 7' high garage door.
And you will thank your self at shallow launch ramps.

Not all states title small boats. Does the boat have registration numbers on the bow? May be that's all there was and your state will gladly take your money to re-register it. Check with them.
