Beach Channel is closed too. I even heard they will ticket you for launching. Then too I dissagree with lumping fishermen with "recreational" boaters. There is a huge difference between a boat full of partying people and a lone fisherman.

Just get a new cable. They are readily available and not hard to change out. The head unit is probably fine. Mine is over 20 years old and in great condition. I have only ever seen one helm unit go bad. The original helm that was in my boat was busted where it would not turn more than a few degrees....

The Sun came out! Here is the top side with the hinges. You can just see the old hole that I plugged. That used to be the center so you can see how much I cut it down by. The 17-footer hatch is about five inches wider than the 15-footer hatch. Length was almost the same.

Hi RichS. Thanks for that info. Makes sense. But in my case the layers right on the wood are doing fine. It is the top layers that peel. I assume it is UV light as well as salt peeling layer by layer.
