Your reply is not clear. Perhaps you meant to say you should have said "currency exchange" instead of importation "duty." If that guess is correct, then I think you are saying there was NO CUSTOM IMPORTATION DUTY on the importation of the fuel tank--right?

I would have thought that the NAFTA agreement would have eliminated a CUSTOMS IMPORT DUTY on a fuel tank. What is the category of manufactured-in-USA product that would be used for importation of a fuel tank made in Florida into Canada? What is the duty? Does it vary by province in Canada?

After you had the local welder repair the fuel tank and coat the fuel tank with some sort of material, and after you made your own gasket for the fuel pick-up cover plate, did you perform any sort of test of the repaired tank to see if it held pressure?

My boat is about six years younger than yours, but I suspect that replacement of the fuel filler hose may be something needed in the future. Thanks for the information on the tight fit of the over-sized hose. I'll keep that in mind when the time comes for replacement of that hose on my boat.

If you have an old 16-footer's center console, I think it was built using mahogany, and probably mahogany plywood, not all mahogany lumber. The usual finish treatment for mahogany is a varnish. From the image posted above of the hull, it looks like there was no anti-fouling paint. There probably wasn't any bottom paint or barrier coat of any kind. Hulls that sit in the water for extended periods of time will pick up some water into the gel coat and laminate. Let the hull thoroughly dry out...

With a Boston Whaler boat, the thickness of the hull laminate is probably less than in a typical fiberglass hull.
