Re: Hull Cleaning

On-Off hull cleaner does work exceptionally well on dark water stains but it will definitely damage the galvanizing on the trailer. It is acid based.

I have not found an alternative hull cleaner so I just take the boat off the trailer before use.

Re: Evinrude iDOCK

I recently had a discussion with a guy who just purchased a new 30 foot Sea Hunt with twin 250 Yamahas. He purchased the boat this past January at a boat show. The boat included the Yamaha Helm Master system. http://yamahaoutboards.com/rigging/helm-master/overview He reported the upcharge for this a...

Re: Entering Canadian Water

Jim--thank you for this update. This is good to hear with regard to cruising waters along Canada-USA borders. I was on Grindstone Island, New York, last year, which I believe is a couple of hundred yards from the Canada-USA border of Lake Ontario. I really wanted to cross the lake to check out Canad...

Re: What to do with old gas

I had about 70 gallons of stale fuel because my boat was not used for two years. My engine repair shop arranged for the boat tank to be pumped by a service they use when they need to dispose of contaminated fuel. The disposal fee per gallon was a bit more than the cost of the replacement fuel. In my...

Re: Cushions have pink spots

Coppertone spray-on Sport suntan protection does exactly what Butch says. I stopped using it- not only stained my vinyl but my clothes and the stain was an orange-pink hue.

Also eventually ate up the rubber grips on my golf clubs- I kid you not!

Re: For all the South Jersey boaters "Little Egg Inlet"

Jim- I have been following the articles about Leland with great interest. Even though the situation does not directly impact me stuff like that is very frustrating to me. A lot of these situations seem to be occuring because of an immediate and severe reduction or removal of Federal dollars to pay f...

Re: For all the South Jersey boaters "Little Egg Inlet"

Hello Beerspitnight, But my experience in the Oyster Creek Channel is by no means an official record of boating incidents there as my time traversing the channel are minimal in comparison to the total number of in-and-outs that take place each day at Barnegat Inlet. Great point! It sounds like you w...

Re: For all the South Jersey boaters "Little Egg Inlet"

I do not use this inlet for access to the ocean but I anticipate this may cause Barnegat Inlet to become even more congested during peak season weekend boating. On the weekends during the summer Barnegat Inlet is already a freakshow. Especially if the Oyster Creek channel is the only channel availab...

I'd go with the Boston Whaler Montauk. Over the long run the Montauk will cost a lot less than a Striper.

Hi Jeff, Thanks! Received my Sakonnet print and the other "goodies" you threw in. This is another very nice print! Great addition to the other 3 I have- I enjoy all your work. For a Whaler fan I highly recommend having these prints to add to your Whaler "stuff". Best Regards, Rich

Re: Raymarine Dragonfly-4 Pro with Navionics

I purchased and installed a Raymarine Drangonfly-5 last year for my 16 classic. The sonar and chart funtions have performed just fine for my needs, I feel your pain though as far as connecting the power cable to the unit. I could not figue out how to "lock" the power cord connection to the...

Re: Grindstone Island, NY Boating: Canadian Waters

Thanks Hoosier that's how I read it. It is consistent with the experience depicted in a recent post- cruise New York to Canada- the Lake Champlain segment brought my attention to it regarding the border crossing by water. I've spent a fair amount of time the past 3 years or so trailering boats up to...

Grindstone Island, NY Boating: Canadian Waters

I am heading up to a buddies family house on Grindstone Island, NY this weekend. Bringing my 1966 16' up there. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Clayton,+NY+13624/@44.225731,-76.1479667,12z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x4ccd49996bc88203:0xa00970185386a496!8m2!3d44.239491!4d-76.0857759 I have been reading on bo...

Re: Mahogany Console and Helm Bench Seat Height Modification

Thank you Jim for the additional photos- that is a very nice job Jerry did. I'm only 5'10" tall but I am most comfortable, and my lower back is happiest, standing as straight up as possible when running the boat. All of the suggestions and photos are very helpful. --Rich

Mahogany Console and Helm Bench Seat Height Modification

I will be installing a replacement mahogany console and helm bench seat in my 1966 16'7" Boston Whaler. Over the past year I have purchased used original replacement parts so the wood console and seat are original Boston Whaler equipment. I would like the final installation height to be higher ...

Re: c.1960 Whaler Restoration

Yes sanding is fun! As to the final sanding preparation prior to applying the high build primer- I would defer to the primer manufacturer recommendation in the instructions- they usually get it right. My gut tells me that 220 grit is way too fine a surface for initial primer coat adhesion. 80 grit t...

Re: 1993 OUTRAGE 21

I just sold my 1997 Outrage 21 that I owned since 2003. It was originally powered by a Mercury 225 and I re-powered with a Mercury 250. Based on my experience with this boat I would not put less than 200 horsepower on it. My recommendation would be 200 to 225-HP unless you feel the need to go over 5...
