Re: KING StarBoard to Build Steering Console for SPORT 15
I agree with 3/4" Starboard for the console.
Also, careful marking your Starboard with pencil when measuring.....it won't come off!
In addition, I have bonded Starboard successfully with 3M ScotchWeld 8005 2 part adhesive. Adding mechanical fasteners is also a wise move.

Re: c.1960 16-footer Re-power
We had a 1964 Boston Whaler NAUSET. It was powered by a three-cylinder 70-HP Mercury two-stroke-power-cycle engine. Never had a stainless propeller in those days. I always felt the NAUSET was adequately powered. It was not uncommon to see those hulls powered by 55-HP engines.

With all the limitations, if it were me personally: 17 Montauk, 50-70 hp two stroke, trailer. It may slightly exceed towing capacity, but I'd still go for it. Drive very carefully, leaving room to brake. Texas is pretty flat and no mountainous areas. When it's time to replace the RAV4, go for a bit ...

My opinion: Kids grow, and add friends. Your best bet is a 17 Classic Montauk, or if affordable, a 170 (newer style) Montauk, of even a 150 Montauk if you can get a good deal. Engine: To start, something DEPENDABLE. Low hours and well maintained. 2 or 4 stroke doesn't matter to get you started. You ...

Would you rule out a 190 or 210 Montauk? Very stable boats. In my opinion, the 170 Montauk has it all over the classic 17 Montauk. Far heavier, and the ride of the new designs are remarkable.
