Re: 2006 Mercury 90: Convert to 115-HP

Pretty much what Jim said. If the specs are the same for a 90 and 115 and it is a 4 stroke, usually the ECM and maybe the throttle body are different. How you can usually tell is higher rpms for the higher HP engine. My 40 Suzuki is identical to a 50hp. Mine redlines at 5800 and the 50 is like 6200....

Boat $300
Rubrail $250
Interior $700ish
Used trailer $650
Used outboard $1500+
Glass mat, resin, gelcoat, etc $1000 easy

I think you can find a really nice boat for what that adds up to and not have to lift a finger.

What ever the redline is or just below. You d not want to baby a 2 stroke as it will probably self destruct before from carbon buildup , etc. The hours are low, run it conservative like you are doing but don't be afraid to kick it up once a day or so.

Just because you hit bottom does not mean you damaged the hub. If it drives the same as before you hit the bottom you are OK and so is the hub. Why would you buy a new SS prop even if you did ruin the hub? You just have a new hub put in for $40 or $50. This does not make sense as the 1yr old hub is ...

I agree with Phil. I can't see how a meter would be able to gauge moisture through gelcoat, matt, resin, and possibly wood or whalerboard to get to the foam. Most boats do have some water in them, almost impossible to not have a bit.

If you are running 40 with a W/D I doubt your foam is totally waterlogged. A W/D model is rated for 300hp I believe so a 200(even a H.O) is at the bottom of the range and in my opinion 40 is not bad. Is your engine charging the battery? Usually a dead tach that is still in working order is due to a bad rectifier. Usually if rectifier is dead it stops charging and battery goes dead. I had a 93 Ocean Runner that loved to eat rectifiers.
