Re: The Market for Outboard Engine Re-powering

Jim, not a great advancement comparing to 2 stroke engine weight, but most Gen 1 four stroke engines exceeded 600 lbs. Considering a four stroke has more moving parts and weight, this is a significant achievement. Many folks never believed a four stroke V-6 could ever weigh less than its 20 year old...

Re: The Market for Outboard Engine Re-powering

The new Mercury V6 FOURSTROKE 225-HP engine weighs 475-lbs. That is 30-lbs lighter than my 505-lbs Optimax V-6 DFI two-stroke--amazing advancement that will make re-powering to four-stroke technology a simpler decision.

Well, add a U.S. Navy warship to the list. USS LITTLE ROCK (LCS-9) is presently trapped at Montreal, due to ice and lack of available tugs and ice breakers to escort her out to open water. I have a Conquest 21 with a 1999 Mercury Optimax 200. My prop is a Mirage Plus 17P and I get max RPM of 5,750 and max speed trimmed out of 38-40 MPH. You might also want to check your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). There are two on this age of Optimax and they get very temperamental.
