With a 25' boat, speed is not that much fun. With a 25' boat my main concern would be economy which may improve along with the speed in your situation. Fun is a 15' Whaler with a 90hp. Doing 50-MPH or faster in a 15' is borderline insane. Fun is also a 16' Donzi as you can easily get into the 60's. ...

Be very careful with running AC power to a boat in the water, even with a trickle charger. It can use the water as a ground and cause serious electrolysis. I used to keep my boat in a slip for the weekend and some people "near" me would run AC to their boat for the livewell to cycle overni...

After getting a T-Top in NJ I would not do it again even though I live in FL now for reasons that Jim points out. On a classic Whaler they are difficult and sometimes impossible to secure correctly. The E-TEC 90 is a good match especially since you currently have 80-HP. If you were replacing the OMC 90 you may not be so thrilled as the E-TEC does not have the pure brute grunt(nor thirst) of the old crossflow 90's of the day. Montauk17 boats will not keep a dry deck with the plug out. They will fill with water until it reaches the console or close to it. This is why there is a bilge pump. Not all Whalers are self bailing. Many of the classics were but were designed when engines were much lighter. In the mid 1970's a 135-...

That boat is a good find being all there and unmolested.
I would want to know what "died" on the engine before I did anything.
You can always go to DMV with the owner if he can't find the title and get a new one.
I bet the varnish on the wood is from the factory.
