Re: 210 MONTAUK: Towing Behind Sportfishing Yacht
I towed a classic Montauk (much smaller boat that a 210) all over the place with a 43' boat. I have a couple items, and a few lessons--not sure what your experience is, so hopefully my comments are [not] annoying. The classic Montauk had a two part bridle, bow eye to norman pin. Everything terminate...

Re: Haze on Wood Finish
The final coat was thick but not excessive. The only thing I can come up with is the slight temp swing and having the wood warmer than the garage itself. I use a remote temp sensor when doing wood/fiberglass projects just to keep an eye on the temp. The wood is actually teredo wood (aka shipworm) so...

Haze on Wood Finish
On my latest woodwork project (which happens to be not a Whaler), my finish coat ended up with a satin finish instead the expected semi-gloss finish and looks hazed. I am perplexed as to what would have caused this, as all the prior coats went down fine, and I really didn't change much, other than t...

Re: 1975 Montauk: Transducer Ideas
I ran vertically along the motor bracket and used available motor locations to zip tie against; then zip tied to the steering cable. There is one sealed screw in the transom on my install (aside from the bracket itself). It took a few deep breaths to actually make the hole. Since your motor will be ...

Re: GARMIN Quickdraw Contours
Good to know [about GARMIN Quikdraw Contours]. I am planning a Garmin upgrade this summer. I fish a lot of unmarked ocean pinnacles and ledges that are rather small, 50-feet in height in 200-feet of water. I would love to get the contours down by doing multiple passes and see what comes up when rend...

Re: Power Saw
Circular saw, aka Skilsaw (by specific brand called Skil) - But never heard them called a "cutoff saw". I have always associated a cutoff saw and chop saw to be rigid swing arm saws not capable of doing miters or compound miters (technically a miter + bevel cut). Basically good for square ...

Re: Power Saw
And one thing that may have not been clear in my prior post, I use straight edges (long machined levels actually) more often as guides with the circular saw/skilsaw. Clamp down the straight (and board being cut), and rip a rather clean cut with no waves. Takes a minute more to set up, but worth it. ...

Re: Power Saw
My suggestion really depends on what your long term plans are. If you plan on more DIY projects, than more specialized tools would be recommended. -- For short term projects, borrowing tools is by far the most cost effective. (I actually have a neighbors new 13” planer in my garage at the moment, st...

Re: Reducing Engine Noise
The main culprit in sound transmission is open airways, providing unhindered pathways to open air (our ears). Now given that an outboard needs intake air, this creates a conundrum. Outboards have baffles on the cowling and carb bodies to manage back-fire, reduce moisture (from rain and spray), and h...

Appreciate the effort, and hard work jimh. -- I was a bit concerned about your health, and of course your CW legacy.
