Orange Spots on deck 1972 13-footer
I have a 1972 13-footer The blue non-skid cockpit deck has developed what appear to be small rust colored spots. I tried to remove them using several cleaners and was finally successful using Bar Keeper’s Friend. The floor looks very nice now. I'd like to understand what caused these spots. There we...

Anti seize material for steering wheel
What anti-seize material should I use on the steering helm shaft before installing the wheel? I may want to remove it at some time in the future.
I think I've seen this [topic discussed ] before.

Re: Refinish Mahogany
After doing more digging through the old CW forum I found several threads on refinishing mahogany with a ton of good information. I will not be staining the wood. And I like the idea of using SS fender washers under the trim washers to avoid the trim washers cracking into my new varnish. I do have a...

Refinish Mahogany
I have a 1972 Sport 13. I am refinishing the helm as the varnish is old and has a few cracks. I want to protect it from damage. I understand I need to sand it down to bare wood. Do I need to stain the mahogany again before applying the Z-Spar varnish? My concern is matching the other wood pieces as ...

Re: Steering Wheel for Wire Rope and Pulley Steering
There's a lot of food for thought in that old thread. Thanks Rich. I'm the type that does quite a bit of research on anything before I run out and make a big change like changing the steering system. There are so many guys on here with so much knowledge of these Whalers, even these old ones like my ...

Re: Steering Wheel for Wire Rope and Pulley Steering
Richard, I came to the same conclusion that chances of finding a direct replacement wheel are slim to none. I'm thinking of installing a whole new steering system. What would you recommend? Someone recommended a Teleflex no-feedback system. Interested in your suggestions.

Re: Steering Wheel for Wire Rope and Pulley Steering
I must have a very unusual steering system design. The shaft is actually a 3/4" tapered brass pipe with a thread on both ends. So being a pipe there is no keyway slot for the steering wheel. They achieved positive engagement by putting a pin through the pipe which protruded about 1/8" and ...

Steering Wheel for Wire Rope and Pulley Steering
Greetings: I need a replacement steering wheel for my 1972 Sport 13. The one I had broke. Where can I buy a replacement wheel? It is for the old original wire rope and pulley steering system. I don't care if it's plastic or stainless. Thanks.

I have a 72 Sport 13. As jimh says these are not screws in your boat but are from the mold.

Accuracy of GPS Speed Below 3-MPH
What is the accuracy of the GPS speed at very low speeds like 1 to 3 mph? I enjoy walleye fishing and most of the time we troll with a desired speed range (through the water) from about 1.0 to 3.0 mph depending on many factors such as lure being used and water temperature. We use our gps units to de...

Re: GPS Speedometers
jimh, you bring up a point that I have been thinking about. The accuracy of GPS speed of 0.4mph. I like to fish for walleye by trolling. The desired speeds are in the 1 to 2.5mph range, but we like to dial it in within about 0.2mph. I have argued with some of my fishing buddies that it is impossible...

Trailer with KNOTT Waterproof Bearings
I just recently bought my first Boston Whaler boat, a 1972 Sport 13 in very good condition. I'm now a Whaler fan. I have a problem that I'm hoping someone can help with. The boat trailer is a very nice 2010 galvanized steel E-Z-Loader trailer. One of the trailer bearings is rough and loud and needs ...

Repair of Hull Surface Gouges, Stripped Fastener Holes
I just removed the railing around my Sport 13. The stanchion on the front of the boat has three stripped holes. How do I go about repairing this? I've never done any fiberglass work, but time to learn as there are a few hull surface gouges that need repair also. Thanks.

1976 11 SPORT Hole In Bottom
[I am a] first time poster looking for help. I [want] to buy a small boat for fishing and puttering around inland waters, and something that I can tow behind my Honda CRV to Florida from the Midwest. I would use it to fish the canals and mangroves in southwest Florida in the winter. The CRV's maximu...
