Using ICON Pro Series Gauges with G2 and Legacy E-TEC Engines

Postby jimh » Tue Feb 13, 2018 9:23 am

The Evinrude ICON Pro series gauges and principally the ICON Pro RPM gauge, are designed to be compatible for use with both E-TEC legacy (G1) engines and the newer E-TEC G2 engines. During initial set-up of the ICON Pro RPM gauge, the user will be prompted to choose the engine type (G1 or G2) that will be used with the gauge in their particular installation. The behavior of the ICON Pro RPM gauge will change slightly depending on which engine type is selected. The changes in behavior are principally in three areas:
  • display of engine warnings, alerts, and alarms
  • set-up of fuel tanks and calibration of their senders
  • winterization of the engine

G1 Engines
If the ICON Pro RPM gauge is initialized for use with G1 engines, the behavior remains as in prior versions. The gauge will detect and display warnings, alerts, and alarms sent by a G1 E-TEC engine.

The gauge will be able to perform fuel tank set-up and calibrate tank level senders. The choice of tank types will be from Fuel, Freshwater, Gray Water, Livewell, Oil, Black Water, Ballast, and Avail tanks.

A wide variety of DATA SOURCES can be configured. The gauge can connect to as many as five resistive-type analogue senders from data sources for Fuel Tank, Engine Trim, Ballast Tank, Bait Well Tank, Rudder Position, Fresh Water Tank, Gray Water Tank, and Black Water Tank. The gauge can calibrate tank level senders and trim senders. The gauge can also be configured to monitor water and air temperature via an analogue input.

The gauge will be able to initiate winterization of G1 engines.

G2 Engines
If the ICON Pro RPM gauge is initialized for use with G2 engines, the gauge's behavior changes from prior versions. The gauge will now be able to detect and display warnings, alerts, and alarms sent by a G2 E-TEC engine.

Set-up of fuel tanks will require use of EV-Diag6 software. Generally this software is only available to dealers; the fuel tank configuration will likely need to be performed by a dealer during engine installation and boat set-up.

The gauge will NOT be able to initiate winterization of G2 engines; EV-Diag6 software must be used.
