1976 Outrage 21 with Bow Pulpit

Postby Aroth » Wed Jun 15, 2016 10:29 am

I have a 1976 OUTRAGE 21 with what looks like a factory installed bow sprit [bow pulpit] with electric anchor windlass. Overall length of boat is about 23-feet.

Were there boats common?

A bow pulpit option was offered on many Boston Whaler boat models. It will take a bit of research to see if in 1976 there was an option for a bow pulpit on an OUTRAGE 21.

I don't have any data, nor do I know where anyone could find any data, on how many boats were ordered with the bow pulpit option for a particular model in a particular model year.

I doubt an option for an electric windlass was offered in 1976 on an OUTRAGE 21.

In the November 1975 Boston Whaler Specification and Prices booklet, it shows: For the Outrage 21' Outboard, a "Fiberglas Forward Platform" option for $150. Could that be it?

If you read the catalogue pages in the 1976 catalogue there is a mention of the fiberglass forward platform. It is designed for elevating an angler for casting or for affixing a chair. It is not a bow pulpit. The are optional cushions for the platform.

There is no mention of a bow pulpit in the options list, and none is shown in any of the photographs.

The fiberglass forward platform is shown in one of the illustrations. It is clearly not a bow pulpit.

There is no mention of an electrical motor driven windlass. The OUTRAGE 21 anchor locker is described as being able to hold an anchor of 8-lbs. It would be irrational to install an electrical motor drive windlass to retrieve and anchor that weighs 8-lbs on a open cockpit outboard boat in 1976.

Thanks for the replies, I have pictures, but their file size is too large for the blog.

The forward platform mentioned above was a casting platform inside the forward deck area. There was never a factory bow pulpit option that I know of on the classic Banana Hulled 21 Outrages / Revenges
