Rage 15 Conversion to Outboard

Postby Marc-B » Sun Aug 07, 2016 5:52 am

I already have a 1979 Newport 17 and promised my wife I would never end up having two Whalers, but I just saw for-sale a for a 1995 Rage 15 with trailer and defective motor for under $1000, It looks clean in pictures. The seller say the motor is 115 HP--this must fly.

How does this hull handle?

Is converting to an outboard engine and bracket an option?

Other than water intrusion, what should I be looking for?

Thanks--Marc

With the seller acknowledging the engine is not working, you have discovered the most common defect in a RAGE.

Converting the RAGE hull to outboard engine power by repairing the transom and adding a bracket is possible. This modification has been done before. Read a number of threads from the OLD FORUM on this topic at

Thanks Jim,

Could have been a nice project, but someone beat me to it.
