E-TEC 200HO G1 vs G2

Postby Ridge Runner » Tue Sep 13, 2016 9:11 pm

I was searching for some info on the first generation E-Tec 200HO and ran across this recent, May 2016, video of the G1 vs the G2 200HO. Entertaining "real life" comparison: https://www.tradeboats.com.au/tradeaboa ... 0-g1-vs-g2

That dealer from down-under has made several demonstration recordings of his boats and engines. I am a bit skeptical of the fuel consumption data he has produced in the test demonstration. The newer E-TEC G2 engine produces a fuel consumption rate that is about half that of the legacy E-TEC. While I am open to a belief that the newer E-TEC G2 engine provides improved fuel economy, I am not ready to believe that it cuts fuel consumption in half. A reduction in fuel consumption by half would be an astonishing achievement in internal combustion engine technology. While I think the G2 E-TEC engines have improved the technology of the combustion chamber, I don't think they have cut fuel use in half, as this presentation tries to suggest.
