Another one to my Whaler Fleet.

Postby John_Madison CT » Mon Sep 26, 2016 7:17 pm

At one point last year I owned a [1966 13-footer], a [1986 15-footer] and an [1989 25-footer]. The two smaller ones were sold last winter, and i was down to one.

Well. that changed already. I just bought a 15-footer, a 1977 with a [1996] Johnson 48-HP for $2,500. Trailer is two-years-old and, on the muffs so far, the engine runs great.

This winter, I'll redo all the wood. In fact, I already bought a new "blemished" console from Specialty Marine for $150.

Owning three Boston Whaler boats seems to be an unstable configuration. Two-boats are more stable. Congratulations on the new addition. And very good shopping at that price.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that 1977 and prior Boston Whaler 15-foot boats had a maximum horsepower rating of 75. Does you Coast Guard capacity plate (if it's still intact) show that? Just curious.

Congratulations.

Specifications for the 15-foot hull are at

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/15/

The maximum power for a c.1976 15-foot hull, the first year of production, is 75-HP. Some later catalogues reduced that to 70-HP.

Took the new 15' out for her maiden voyage. With myself and girlfriend, she hit 32mph. The engine is mounted all the way down, so perhaps the 48hp can be raised, but there's no tach onboard so I don't know if it's the right prop..

All in all, not bad.
