I need to purchase a new trailer for my recently acquired 1971 Nauset. Would greatly appreciate recommendations on models from Karavan and other manufacturers that would be a great match for the boat. My Whaler dealer called Karavan and they could not recommend a specific model trailer for a boat of that vintage. It appears the current trailer for the 150 Super Sport would work, but it has smaller tires than I'd prefer. I plan to do a fair amount of long distance trailering, so looking for a quality replacement. Also open to aluminum rather than galvanized.
Thanks! Cynthia
Trailer Recommendations for 1971 Nauset
Re: Trailer Recommendations for 1971 Nauset
Cynthia--if you have a reputable custom boat trailer builder within a reasonable driving distance that may be your best source for a trailer. You'll have perfect fit as well as any options you want. We recently had a custom trailer built for our 1981 Sport 13. It's exactly what we want, no more and no less. The cost was comparable to a stock trailer but the quality far exceeds that of the available stock trailers in our area.
The only downside was the slightly higher cost and the loss of the use our boat for a couple of weeks while it was at the trailer builders facility awaiting its turn.

EZ Loader model # EZB 14-17 2000. Excellent quality and good price.

It does depend on where you live since trailers are regional (except Whaler spec'ed Karavan).
In addition to Frontier's suggestion, Continental makes great trailers.

Re: Trailer Recommendations for 1971 Nauset
I bought a new trailer for my 1999 Alert 17 a couple of tears ago, a Load Rite Model 5S- 172450V. It has a capacity of 2450-lbs, is galvanized, has 14-inch wheels, and LED lights. It has diamond plate aluminum fenders.
This is a bunk trailer and I mounted the rollers under the keel. I mounted a double-roller at the back, a single roller on a crossmember, and a single roller at the front.
To launch and load by myself is very easy. I tow about 3,500-miles-per-season. I couldn't find the receipt but I think I paid $1800 with a spare tire and wheel and the rollers. I got the trailer from Pirate Marine.com. I am pleased with the trailer and Pirate Marine.
