New Whaler 170 Montauk
New Whaler 170 Montauk
Just purchased a 2017 Montauk 170. Did mountains of research, tried out many other boats, looked extensively for used ones, and finally made the decision yesterday, after the boat show rebates came out. Getting ready for Spring on the lake in New Hampshire.

Congratulations! How about some more details? What options did you get?
Re: New Whaler Montauk 170
Blue graphics, fishing package, bow cushion, console and pilot seat covers, hydraulic steering. Package comes with galvanized trailer and 90 HP Mercury EFI 4 stroke. Decent deal I guess. From MSRP dealer discounted $1000 and BW has $1500 rebate. Dealer is very pleasant and accommodating to work with. This is the boat we liked the best of everything we looked at and is something we can handle and launch easily on lakes. Besides, it's the one my wife liked best. Mostly for light cruising, fishing, and swimming from on New Hampshire lakes. These boats are pricey but have excellent resale. Used ones we saw were all too expensive with older motors and trailers.

The 170 MONTAUK is a great choice for New Hampshire lakes. In fact, I recently recommended one to a relative who lives near Squam. You'll really enjoy it. The 170 MONTAUK still gives the close-to-the-water feel of the classic Whalers but has more usable room.

If you are looking for a mooring cover and motor cover, Mills canvas can fix you up. They took care of mine last year, though the 2016 model with the split bow rail had them a little confused. But they came though. We use ours in the Hampton River, on the coast of New Hampshire. You will love it.

Thanks for the information. We will be using the boat primarily on Lake Spofford and Lake Sunapee, but may occasionally head over to Winnisquam, Winnepasaukee, and others. I am still contemplating a cover, but I like that one.

You are going to love your Montauk. I have owned two classic Montauk and a 'New tauk 2006 model year. I keep switching back and forth from small to large whaler. I had a Mills canvas on my previous Whaler - a 19 Outrage. Very well made and easy to use. I am going to call the, next week to see if they can make one for my new boat.

We have been out 3 times so far in our new boat and are very pleased with her. Twice on Spofford Lake and once on Lake Sunapee. Boat is very well built and easy to handle. I would not expect a particularly smooth ride in high waves and rough conditions but the boat can take it, probably better than the skipper. On inland lakes in normal conditions she is smooth and fast.
