First Restoration: 1969 SPORT 13

Postby krrs » Tue Jan 24, 2017 3:32 pm

Good day. Just wanted to share my [restoration] of a 1969 SPORT that I bought as a bare hull--Norman pins and lifting hooks were there but nothing else. Over the last two winters I restored the outer hull and built an all-new wood interior, mounted a 1998 Force 40-HP with power tilt, and salvaged steering components from various wrecks. The hull interior was gel coated at one time in the ivory color and is in good conditon, so I left it as-is for now--may do it correctly next winter. I spent lots of time on the hull. [There was ] no big damage, but typical bumps and bruises. I got the body lines very nice and straight--a throw back from doing cars. All embeded wood is solid, not punky or rotten, including transom and around the drain tube. Trailer has new bunks, tires, bearing, lamps, and wiring. All my life I have played and restored autos and bikes so this was a nice low dollar and low stress restoration. The way is sits now, the boat is ready for the water; it stands me $3600-Canadian or US-$2,600. I am quite happy with that.

I want to thank all who have contributed to this site.

As always, constructive criticism is welcome.

Cheers,
Ken.

That woodwork looks very yacht-like. The outcome is very impressive, particularly for the modest investment. Thanks for posting the images and narrative. Your work looks to be excellent.
