Offshore 27 v. 280 Outrage or 290 Outrage

Postby Aross88 » Tue Feb 07, 2017 10:17 pm

I'm looking for a subjective and personal opinions, not specifications: which one is better, an Offshore 27 or c.2000 280 Outrage or 290 Outrage?

I tried to explain you this very question when I gave you my phone number but you never bother calling me. I told you that you need to hear what I have to say because I owned both . 27 offshore has a status of whaler holy grail model so I had to own one. Once I started using her I realized how much is that status overrated

I think you should take up the offer to confer with an owner of an OFFSHORE 27. There aren't that many of them to seek advice from.

Thanks Jim.Took me seven years to locate one the way I liked it. Took another four months to bring her to bristol shape and up to my standards. I had few major disappointments in my life, but owning 27 Offshore is very close to the top of that list.

I wanted to write an essay of that experience but realized I have to be very careful writing down my opinion about dream boat for many whaler lovers here. I would only discuss that over the phone to somebody who is ready to listen.

I appreciate the input but as a general rule I don't call people from message boards.

VZE'--any informed and reasonable comments about any Boston Whaler boats ought to be useful. I don't quite understand your reluctance to offer written comments. But if you don't want to do that, that's fine, too.

I'm interested to hear your perspective on the 27 Offshore and sent you an e-mail with my phone number, please give me a call at your convenience.

Thanks.

ACROSS88--the 280 and 290 Outrage are similar and yet quite different from the open transom Offshore 27. I prefer an open transom for crossing the Gulfstream and fishing in a 26-foot boat if I need to get water out quickly. You most likely will have to re-power, but hulls can be found from $600 to $1000 per foot. I have found southern US hulls never exposed to freezing have fewer problems. The Offshore 27 has good access to most systems, wiring, plumbing, and etc. I feel 600-HP (twin F300 Yamaha) to be just the right power and equal weight to the OMC V8 outboards originally offered.

Andrew (VZE') has met a younger and prettier gal at the ball and brought her home. Her bottom has a deep v and she can really perform, though I doubt she can carry 5-ton swamped. Andrew knows the Offshore 27 inside and out and he will tell you truthfully his restoration experience but he has moved on when it comes to the Offshore 27.

Try to ride in all of them and come back if you have a specific Offshore 27 question, or you find your perfect girl.

I have owned a 27 Offshore for the past 13 years. I have used the boat everywhere from the bays to the canyons. I have used it for everything from bottom fishing to trolling for tuna. I cannot comment on the differences between the boats you seek because I have not owned them. I can say that the 27 Offshore is a special boat. Is it the ultimate performer, no. Is it the smoothest riding, no. Does it do just about everything well enough for the average boater, I say yes. The accommodations and features these boats come with are outstanding.
The safety of these boats is also outstanding. Incredible swamping weight and fully foamed hull.
My boat is 25 years old and performs flawlessly. How many 25 year old boats can say that? I would have to spend over $100,000 to replace it, and I doubt I would be able to find any boat as versatile and safe as this boat is, IMHO.
