2004 190 OUTRAGE

Postby bc61088 » Mon Feb 20, 2017 6:43 pm

Hi--I was just gifted a Boston Whaler from my father. I am new to boat ownership---very familiar with being a passenger and can tie a mean knot. I would appreciate any tips. He gave me a 2004 190 Outrage with a Mercury 150 motor. It has been kept in Texas in a slip over the years and he has kept it up very well. I would appreciate any tips, thoughts, and advice. We have rented a slip on a river near us and have signed up for boat safety classes. I am very interested in putting a bimini on as well. Kind of excited and nervous at the same time!! Thanks Beth

Great boat for a beginner.

Safe boating classes are a good thing. You will not be as nervous after the class.

If you keep the boat in a slip you will need to maintain antifouling bottom paint on regular basis. Ask the locals how often and what they use for paint.

For a bimini top or sun top as Whaler calls them you have a couple of choices. Order a factory top and have it installed or go to a reputable canvas shop and have a top custom made.

I recommend you find or get an Owner's Manual from Boston Whaler for your boat. Read it carefully. It will give you good advice.

Call Boston Whaler customer service if you have any questions. They are extremely well acquainted with all Boston Whaler boats and will be glad to help you resolve any problems.

Thanks Jimh,
Never would have thought of that but it sounds like a great idea. Going to go google that now. Have a great day! Beth

For 2004 the 190 Outrage was actually sold as the "Nantucket". The name changed in 2006 to Outrage 190 for model name consistency. (Outrage 190, 210. 240, 270, 320)

There is a host of reference information on the Boston Whaler website under OWNERS/Resources.

Phil has posted a picture of hypertext. Those links don't work. VIsit the site and download all 42 diagrams to learn more about the boat. For advice on using the Whaler support website see

You got a great sea worthy boat. Theres not much that will go bad on 190 outrage but you will have to get familiar with that outboard. I would assume its 150 optimax. Good motor but pretty loud and could be tipsy at times. Loves only optimax oil, minimum 89 octane gas , fuel and injector additives and doesnt like trolling to much.

WOW, what a gift. The 190 Outrage is a great boat, I've had mine for about 4 years and still love it. Let me know if you have any questions about the boat.

I wish I had a Dad like that.
I hope you'll still take him out on it when he asks.
Most advice was already given and I assume you had the ABC education, if not contact your local US Power Squadron.
Happy boating
