Recently renovated this 1979. Originally planned to take it back to original, but I am pretty tall and wanted to be able drive it myself some, so I went with the center console. This also allowed me to put the fuel tank (12 gal) under the console to get some weight forward. She was pretty beat up when I bought her, and even had the original motor. After lots of repairs, glass work, paint, all new rigging, new motor, hydraulic steering, console, seat, hatches, rub rail, fuel tank, running lights, stereo cushions.............etc, she is a good as new, and my kids love it....so do I!
I have some other photos before and during the reno and will post those later.

Re: 1979 13' Renovation
Nice work. I am sure your kids will grow up loving that boat.
Re: 1979 13' Renovation
Beautiful. I'm doing a restoration on a 1963 13-footer. Same road as you, but going to keep it as original as possible.

akwalker--I love your dogs and your boat. You'll have trouble keeping them in the boat when on the water.
Good luck with the restore.
wcollins41-- I like what you did. How did you determine where to put the center console in regard to fore and aft? Some might not like what you did but she is very useful now. Great job.

Thanks, they are 2 keepers. You may be correct about keeping them in the boat.

I know i'm correct. We had two Springers many years apart and both would jump of the the cabin cruiser (4ft freeboard) as soon as you slowed down and where within 300ft from shore. They loved that water on the weekends and couldn't walk on Mondays as they were stiff from all the exercise they had. Again your Whaler looks great.

Re: 1979 13' Renovation
We had a field-breed Springer Spaniel. She was only aboard the boat once. As soon as I let go of her collar, she was overboard and swimming for shore.
Re: 1979 13' Renovation
Thats interesting. My girls do love the water, but have always stayed in the boat till we were docked. Of course, it's a bigger boat than the Whaler. Now after the drive to the marina has been another story. As soon as I open the car door, they beeline for the dock.
I fully can relate to the "sore dog syndrome" every Monday. They used to wear themselves out on the weekends for sure. They are slowing down a bit now that they are getting up in age.
Thanks for the compliment on the boat, but I disagree....... it looks like crap at the moment, but not for long, --I laugh aloud--.
Beautiful dog, Jimh. Springers are the best.

Re: 1979 13' Renovation
That looks great!
I'm curious to know what you used for the interior paint? I'm about to start work on my own '79 13 footer, it won't be as thorough a restoration as that, but I'm going to strip the interior and paint, and I'm curious what was used?
I know akwalker used totalboat wet edge, what did you use wcollins?
For the record, I plan to keep the original configuration, except replace with star-board (current wood is rotted), paint interior, and keep '95 Merc 40 2 stroke that I got with the boat. I'll add pics as I make progress!
Thanks,
Pete
