Boston Whaler in CHANTIX TV Commercial

Postby jimh » Wed Dec 09, 2015 4:49 pm

I just noticed a TV commercial for a drug called CHANTIX (claimed to reduce the urge to smoke cigarettes) that features what appears to be a Boston Whaler boat. The boat has registration number SC 5287 clearly in view, is powered by a 60-HP engine that looks like a blue-gray Yamaha cowling, and looks very much like a Boston Whaler post-classic hull. The boat is a center console, maybe a 15 to 16 footer, and the bow rails wrap around and come almost back to the transom. In the commercial a man and woman are seen fishing from the boat. Later in the commercial a restaurant called "The Smoking Pig BBQ" is seen. I believe the restaurant is located at 6630 Highway 76 in Pendleton, South Carolina. Lake Hartwell and Lake Keowee are not far away.

Does anyone recognize the boat?

I think seeing that ad may have influenced me to try Chantix as a quit smoking aid. I'm glad I did; Chantix was very helpful for me in ending a 35-year addiction to cigarettes.

Jim, it seems that South Carolina allows you to check the ownership records of a boat by the registration numbers - but you will need all the digits - I can not make out the last two alpha characters. Here is the SC DNR link: https://www2.dnr.sc.gov/BoatFacts/BoatF ... hBoatFacts

There is a long time senior member of The Hull Truth - "Captain Billy" who has posted in a CHANTIX based thread on The Hull Truth - He owns a Boston Whaler 15 Dauntless named "Water Bug" and lives in Lake Hartwell SC. This could be his boat - His post and information is half way down the page: http://www.thehulltruth.com/dockside-ch ... tix-2.html

He also owns a 1992 Boston Whaler 27WA - which seems to be for sale

Yep that's me.
It is a 1998 15 Dauntless, powered by a 60 Yamaha.

Welcome Captain Billy! - Was your boat just used for the commercial? or did your wife and yourself also get the staring role?

That is us. i used Chantix 7 years ago to quit smoking. This past April they came and filmed the commercial. It was a great experience. We had a blast filming it

With so many sleuths around here, just be glad your boat wasn't featured in an ad for viagra!

Re endorsement of Viagra: you would have to have a bigger boat. :-)

I think this commercial has been airing for a while. Most of the programming I watch is from my DDR, and I fast-forward through the commercial breaks. I was jumping forward through a long commercial break in something I was watching when my attention was grabbed by the Boston Whaler boat. The forum has a long history of noting the appearance of Boston Whaler boat in various visual mass media.

I loved my Dauntless 15, but my family outgrew it and sold in 2005. Now Montauk 17 is my backup boat when I go solo.
