2015 170 MONTAUK Trolling Motor
2015 170 MONTAUK Trolling Motor
What bow-mounted trolling motor will work with the bow rails on a 2015 170 Montauk? Thanks.
Re: 2015 170 MONTAUK Trolling Motor
Any motor will need a mounting block so it can slide out to clear the rail.

Re: 2015 170 MONTAUK Trolling Motor
If Boston Whaler offers an option for a bow-mounted electric trolling motor on the 2015 170 MONTAUK, they probably have figured out what particular trolling motor works well. Contact Boston Whaler customer service and ask for their advice on the installation of a bow-mounted electric trolling motor on a 2015 170 MONTAUK.

Trolling motor panel with battery box and wiring (deletes standard bow rail)

It has been this way since the option was first introduced.

Re: 2015 170 MONTAUK Trolling Motor
Thanks Phil--it sounds like there is no trolling motor that Boston Whaler considers useful with the standard bow rails--that's my deduction.
Re: 2015 170 MONTAUK Trolling Motor
Personally I would never delete the bow rail, even with a trolling motor.

Re: 2015 170 MONTAUK Trolling Motor
Phil,
Haven't there been some modifications of the rail to include an opening section for deploying and recovering the trolling motor?
Custom welding and installation of hinge and latch is necessary but.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree I would not remove the bow rails. I did know to get the boat set up with the trolling motor option you did need to delete the bow rails. Actually been looking at the Montauk for about 30 years, finally able to get one. I studied all the options for years, --I laugh aloud--. Looking for a way to slow troll live bait.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Re: 2015 170 MONTAUK Trolling Motor
John, you are correct about the bow rail being modified with hinges. The wiring is another concern.
Re: 2015 170 MONTAUK Trolling Motor
In the last 2 years there have been 2 members who had their rails modified and a hinge added. Prior to this, adding a mounting board solved the clearance concern.
For owners who don't have the trolling motor package, adding batteries, switch and plug in the console and using a custom extension cord from the console to the motor has worked well.
