Restoring c.1963 13-footer
Restoring c.1963 13-footer
I have been wanting a Boston Whaler since I was 12-years-old. I picked up this gem on the fourth of July. It's only two years younger than me, but probably in a little better shape. I thought I'd post some pictures as it progresses. Love this website, very glad to have found it.
After many hours with the orbital sander, and two coats of primer:
Taken on the 4th of July--long way to go, but it is coming along.

Re: 1963 Resto
Congratulations! You will have fun with that one. Looks like a 13 footer. I have a 16 foot Sakonnet, 1963, that I bought in 1972. I have used the hell out of it and still use it 2 or 3 times a year. Keep it in Baja, Mexico. It needs restoring. One of these days.

One more coat of paint and the topsides are done. Then she's off the trailer to finish up the bottom.

Looking good! I did the same thing about 9 years ago with a 1967 13 footer. They are great boats.

Well, topside is done and the logos are applied. Next, she comes off the trailer and we do the bottom.

Went to the Bahamas for a week. Got home Saturday, and off the trailer she came. Bottom done. She'll sit like this till Saturday and then go back on the trailer. Then its on to the interior.

I am using Total Boat WetEdge from Jamestown Dist. Gloss white on the outside, and Whaler Blue on the inside. Sanded the outside down to 120 grit and rolled and tipped. It looks great...... from a distance, --I laugh aloud--. I'm happy with the results for a 53 year old neglected hull. Its back on the trailer and in the garage so I can paint the inside.
New rub rail showed up today. That'll go on as soon as the interior paint work is done.

Two coats of Whaler Blue. Inside is drying in the sunshine. Came out really nice.

Thanks guys.
Got the new rub rail on this morning. Not the correct color for the year, but I like the contrast.

The non skid on the floor has been painted with a roller. Came out great, nice and even. Used paint from Jamestown Dist. "Total Boat Wet Edge". Good stuff.

Congratulations on the restoration. The 20 images of your boat have made it now the most photographically documented restored 13-footer in the history of this forum.

Well, that's quite a distinction. If anyone is interested in any more photos, I have a ton. Now, onto the next one. Have my eye on a late 60's 17'. Waiting to hear back from the owner. Gotta love Craigslist.
