I recently came across this [older 13-foot boat]. I'm a little confused about its history. The original stencil is covered up as far as I can tell due to a re-paint repair.
Based on the hull design, and the info from the reference section, believe it to be a pre-72. A few things are throwing me off:
--should there be a bulkhead or walk around the transom?
--why do the gunwales go straight down instead of having a ledge?
--it appears that maybe the anchor locker has been glassed in.
Any info you could provide would be appreciated. I'd like to throw a tiller handle on this thing and go to town but I want to make sure I know what I am looking at.

Re: Question about older Whaler 13
Best I can tell it's not a Whaler.

The hull shape cannot be seen in any of the images. I don't see evidence of a Unibond construction method. Therefore I don't see any basis to suspect that the boat seen in the images was made by Boston Whaler.

I will get some pictures of the hull itself but I wanted to get the photos of the interior up first because that is what was throwing me off the most. Anchor locker, transom, and the gunwales. The hull looks like the classic whaler design. Did most clones have the curved transom as well? I was wondering if this is the same layout that McKee used
Re: Older 13
You might convince yourself the boat is a Boston Whaler boats, but you will have a hard time convincing anyone else.
The CONTINUOUSWAVE website does not really try to collect and organize historical information about boats built by McKee. I do recall seeing some of them and the interior finish was typically a splatter coat of gel coat resin in white and blue, not a solid color. The boat pictured looks nothing like that with its solid blue interior color.
The boat pictured also does not resemble a Dell Quay boat, another well-know knock-off of a Boston Whaler 13-foot boat. For more about DELL QUAY boats see my article about them in CETACEA:

No doubt. I don't believe this is a whaler, just pointing out that the actual exterior hull is a clone or knockoff of the classic whaler style (pre-smirk). The inside definitely doesn't match anything I can find. Thanks for the help.

Re: Older 13
If the exterior is true to whaler design, it is probably a splash from a 13' hull. It would be pretty easy to make a mold and then build a hull and finish out like any single skin boat.
