Hey guys--I just purchased a 1978 Boston Whaler Sport 15 last night. What I really liked about this boat was the 2009 Yamaha 70-HP two stroke motor that was installed. I knew the hull and wood would need some treatment but I did not know how much until I looked at the boat in person. It is plagued with lots of spider cracks mostly toward the bow of the boat. My plan is to remove the interior and paint the inside. Any recommendations on paints or techniques would be greatly appreciated. I have read through many of the posts already and it seems like there are a lot of different options.
From what I can tell the correct interior color is most likely Desert Tan and the hull color is Outrage Grey. Any tips from the pro's would be much appreciated!

That Yamaha three-cylinder 70-HP copy of the great OMC engine of those same ratings and design is an excellent choice for a SPORT 15. You will have a very fast boat--hey, maybe going 50-MPH is what caused the spider cracking at the bow. :-)
More likely the bow problem is from the trailer. It looks like the bow notch support on the trailer is holding up a lot of hull weight that should be resting on a keel roller. Give that a closer look.

50mph! You just made my day. I can't wait to get it out on the water. When I was 14 my dad bought me a 13 sport with a two stroke 30hp Mercury on the back. That was a great handling boat but I can't wait to see what the extra two feet does to the ride and 70hp does to the performance.

I like the added canvas. I don't know if its was a factory option. Using a track for the Bimini-top frame hinges is a good idea--it spreads the load across a large area and several fasteners.
The interior thwart seats looks like they are the original 5/4 mahogany planks. They should clean up nicely and look like new without too much effort.
The anchor locker hatch is secured with hinges--that's why it is still there. Many older boats have lost the original anchor locker hatch cover.
