1995 13 DAUNTLESS Mooring Cover Source

Postby mn car guy » Mon Sep 04, 2017 11:40 am

I'm having a heck of a time finding a mooring cover for a 1995 13 DAUNTLESS with bow rails and windshield. I've checked Amazon and eBay, and GOOGLE, but can't find it.

Anyone know of a source? Thanks if you do.

I have just bought a second Dauntless and soon will be selling the first.

Considering the total number of 1995 13 DAUNTLESS boats that were produced, I would be surprised if there are a large number of vendors competing to sell off-the-shelf replacement boat covers for that particular model. You may have to resort to having a cover custom made or to adapting a stock cover to fit the boat. But, I could be wrong and become both surprised and amazed to find there are such things out there, despite your already acknowledged difficulty in finding one.

I only know of one possible source, http://www.carvercovers.com But given the rarity of the Dauntless 13 I wouldn't count on Carver making the cover. A local cover maker may be your only choice.

Hello, I did a fair amount of research and settled on the Carver Sunbrella cover for my 2003 Dauntless 160. I had a Sunbrella canopy on another boat that lasted 11 seasons of Michigan weather and bird droppings. They had a large selection of colors (I wanted marine blue to match the bimini, console cover, etc.), and it comes with tie downs, a mesh carry bag, and a separate engine cover to match.

When I got the cover, the drawstring on one side was sewn into the fabric. I contacted the Carver customer service folks and they sent a return UPS authorization. They fixed the problem and sent it back to me in less than a week. The cover fits very well and offers excellent protection for the boat. The cover is made in the US if you look for that (I do) and they seem to be very reputable.

I consider the Carver cover to be pretty heavy duty, it's made to last but is also a handful to roll up and could be more than you want to pay, it was not as expensive as the Mills option but a lot more than several other manufacturers.

Hope this helps.

iBoats is currently running a good sale on covers for your Boston Whaler and they have several different grades all come in under a Mills price and do fit well.

I bought one from them for my Montauk (medium price/grade) and after 5 years I'm very hapy with it for keeping the weather and road grime out when trailering long distances and storing. See below. Of course a cover like this is not a true mooring cover as you have to get a lanyard under the boat in order to secure it as I don't think the drawstring will be sufficient. You could buy a snap kit and add them to the cover and boat under the rub-rail. This would be your most inexpensive solution.

You can always have an expensive custom cover made locally.
