What have I purchased?

Postby fundriven@gmail.com » Tue Sep 26, 2017 6:53 am

Hello fellow BW fans. I live in Australia where we are supposed to worship our local Haines Hunter brand (and I do have a couple of these), however I have picked the forbidden fruit and now have two BW's.
The first one is simple - a 2005 Model 205 Eastport with a 200 Opti, trim tabs, BMS hyd jacking plate, 18p 4 blade, 45 knots (GPS) at 5300rpm.
The next is a mystery as I purchased it 2nd hand with twin 150hp Yamaha 2-strokes. It is registered here as a 1997 23' Outrage - however looking at heaps of photos on the web it appears more like a 25' Guardian as it has the same bull nose and it also has a port side dive door.
It has the following serial number -
BWC5J373B797
It also has the letters -
WB
Below the serial number.
If anyone could shed any light it would be greatly appreciated ???
She rides magnificently and leaves my Eastport for dead in ride department !

She is a Guardian based on the console style and rails.

The Guardian hull is the same form as the Outrage but the deck/fuel cover may be different (metal) with large metal inspection ports. The console and seating options and hardward are also different.

The Outrage/Guardian had an LOA of 24' 7" and a beam of 8' 0"

The Outrage/Guardian 22 had an LOA of 22' 2" and a beam of 7' 5"

Hello Phil,
thanks for the quick response. It is 10:30pm here right now - so I will be out with the tape measure first thing in the morning to check the beam - which should be the easiest measurement.
What model of the Outrage/Guardian had the 24' 7" and 8' 0" measurements? Was it a ( 25 ) ?

The 25 has the LOA of 24' 7"

Show us a photo of the floor and console to be 100% sure.

And it's tomorrow there mate!

Definately a Guardian.

Looks in really good shape. Most commercial boats are trashed when they are sold to the public.

The T-Top is especially interesting. Never seen a leg design like that.

The letters "WB" on the HIN could refer to Work Boat.

Great! Thanks again, Phil.

I have already got rid of the homemade tailer that it was on and so she now sits on a full aluminium one. Next will be a complete tidy up of the gel coat, interior, wiring, and a new leaning post and rear flip up seat. She will also get a custom aluminium tee top (need to get out of the sun as much as possible here). The old Yamaha engines still go strong, but I want to ditch them. I am hesitating between re-powering with either twin 150 or 175-HP OptiMax engines or a single 300 to 350 Verado.

Compare with the GUARDIAN 22 seen in CETACEA Page 12:

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/cetacea/cetaceaPage12.html

The large forward hatch cover is seen; this is a general tip off of commercial construction of a Boston Whaler boat.

You can no longer get a 150-HP or 175-HP OptiMax engine, at least not in the USA. The OptiMax is now only made in the larger displacement series and offered only at 200 or 250-HP. See

https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/engines/outboard/optimaxr/30l-200-250-hp/#specifications

If you want a two-stroke-power-cycle engine from Mercury at 150-HP to 175-HP, you will have to get a ProXS model. The ProXS models seem to be a new model using the Orbital Combustion Process (also used in OptiMax) but tuned or enhanced for really high-speed and light weight fishing boats. See

While Jim is correct for the US, Mercury is showing the same for Australia too.
