ENDURA fabric is best used in warm humid areas, otherwise SUNBRELLA is superior. If your boat is in the coastal deep South where ENDURA is often used I recommend you get two vents for your Montauk ENDURA cover. Install one on the center line of the cover between the RPS and windshield and the other between the windshield and center of the bow rail. ENDURA fabric does not breathe as well as SUNBRELLA, and without vents ENDURA can grow a lot of mold.

For the Northeast US I believe Sunbrella is the optimum boat cover material. If you want a fitted, semi-custom cover I recommend you consider a cover made by Carver Industries. They have a list of retail dealers on their website, http://www.carvercovers.com/, as well as a lot of good general cover information and a listing of cover choices for particular boat makes and models.

Our two Boston Whalers each have a Carver cover, one made of Endura and one of Sunbrella. They look good, fit well and the boats can be safely towed with the covers installed.

Thanks, I just ordered an Endura Supreme Aqua Shield - a step down from the Sunbrella, but still 7yr warranty.

If you are thinking of using this for the winter, I would not. The snow loads will destroy it in 2 yrs.

I made sawhorses and used a heavy duty tarp when I lived in SoPo.

I just purchased a new cover for my 1986 Montauk 17' three months ago. It is a Carver, ( manufactured in South Carolina ). It is their Sun Dura fabric, which is a solution dyed, 7oz. fabric. The cover can be ordered specifically to fit classic Boston Whaler Montauk 17, either with without bow and side rails. The cover is of excellent quality, the fit is absolutely spot-on custom. I can highly recommend this cover for fit and quality.
