Aftermarket Bench Seat for 2006 Montauk 170

Postby tamalpais09 » Wed Oct 11, 2017 8:50 pm

[The c.2006 170 MONTAUK] model seemed to lack a back bench option. I am not sure if the aft back bench that later models could accept would work.

[Is there] an aftermarket bench?

I know Birdsall has a swinging back bench. I don't know if [the boat hull has] the wood backing for it on the transom.

To get good advice on whether certain later-model OEM seating options will be workable for earlier models, I recommend you contact Boston Whaler customer support. They are not most reliable source of this information. I would not undertake the purchase of a OEM seat intended for a later model without confirmation from Boston Whaler that it will work.

Boston Whaler customer service can also answer your questions about the location of embedded reinforcements in the hull of your boat.

I know Birdsall has a swinging back bench. Anyone using that brand or another brand?

In later years, Boston Whaler offered two different rear bench seats for the Montauk 170. One had recesses for the quarters and the other was a straight bench.

Either one may still be available via a Whaler dealer. Expect pricing to be north of $1500.

We purchased a 2006 Montauk in 2011. At that time we added the bench seat Boston Whaler offered as an accessory to new Montauk models. It was fully functional and worked well increasing our seating capacity. Removing it is a two person task. The only difficulty I had was accessing the drain plug in the bilge. Later model Montauks appear to have a larger grate over the bilge. The grate on the 2006 Montauk is smaller and the plug is offset to the starboard side of the bilge. Reaching the plug through the bench seat's access port (located at the bottom of the storage compartment) is difficult for large hands/arms.
