Redesigned 2018 Montauk 150

Postby Dutchman » Wed Jan 10, 2018 10:35 am

I know the new 170 Montauk 60-year Anniversary got a lot of press, but [Boston Whaler] also redesigned the 150. Did anybody see the Boattest review of this newly designed 150 Montauk? It is a nice write up. I'm happy that my 2008-boat's performance coincides with the 2018-boat, except the 2018-boat apparently it is a better ride. And it seems to get on plane quicker.

Re: Redesigned 2018 Montauk 150; what boat to buy if you had the money

At the Seattle Boat Show Boston Whaler have the new 150 Montauk. It really feels like an updated version of the late classic MONTAUK 17-foot from 1998 to 2002--one of my favorite designs. The 150 hull weight even matches the 1998 to 2002 Montauk at 950-lbs. This boat will become a timeless classic.

If I had the money, I would buy the 60th anniversary 170 Montauk. The boat is BIG. It feels like the old 1985 Outrage 20 I used to own. Another great design on display at the Seattle Boat Show. Both 150 and 170 on display have the teak package.

It's refreshing to see someone at corporate hasn't destroyed the classic lines of the Montauk.

If I had the money, I would buy a 2018 345 CONQUEST. Well, at least I would try to get on the waiting list for a production slot, maybe in a year a two.

Hey Jim and Whaler19: we all can dream and act after we win the Powerball but until then we should and are happy with our current Whalers even if they are older. Hey maybe we should buy that 62 ft center console with 2500 plus HP.

DUTCH--The topic of "...if I had the money..." is a dangerous one to introduce into any discussion . There are practical and financial limits for everyone, although clearly not always the same limit.

I can only afford to buy Boston Whaler boats when they are at least 20-years-old, and then only small ones. By the time the 2018 150 MONTAUK is 20-years-old, say 2038, I will be almost 90-years-old, so it might not be the right boat for me then.

But the 2018 150 MONTAUK is a fine topic for discussion here, much better than "If I had the money...", so I hope there is more to say about the 2018 150 MONTAUK than to use it as a comparison to some other boat you'd rather have.
