Oregon Buoy 10 Boat Collision

Postby porthole » Thu Jan 18, 2018 3:07 pm

This first-person view is a scary incident:

[Thanks for mentioning this incident and the recording of it from the boat's point of view, but I deleted the link you posted. It went to a news website which was providing this video only after you watched a commercial. There are dozens of news sites linking to the video and making you watch commercials before you can see it. Here is the link to the video, and no commercials to watch, which I find is a much better way to get the information. I think this is the original posting of it. Try:

There is already a lawsuit in the works as a result of this collision. Details at the DAILY ASTORIAN.

The article identifies the other boat as a 31-foot Bayliner Trophy. Apparently the collision occurred last year (perhaps in September 2017) but the posting of the video has stirred up interest in it.

I have to say those guys in the fishing boat reacted rather quickly. I don't know if I would have been able to jump overboard like that. Maybe at some point your survival instincts take over and you bail out.

Also, the guys in the fishing boat were policemen; maybe they are better trained and have more experience in reacting in very tense situations.

A criminal prosecution was initiated against the driver of the 31-foot boat that ran over the fishing boat. The driver died before the case was was brought to trial.
