2003 MONTAUK 150: Rail Diameter; Rod Holder Recommendation

Postby Riverdance » Sun May 06, 2018 2:00 pm

I want to install rod holders on the rail around my 2003 Montauk 170.

Is the rail 7/8-inch or 1-inch in diameter?

Also, which rod holders do you recommend [for installation on rails]?

Thanks for your help.

Before buying a rod holder to clamp onto the rail of your boat, I recommend you measure the rail diameter on your actual boat in preference to taking suggestions about what its diameter might be.

For many years I believe that Boston Whaler installed rod holders made by Lee's of Miami, but I don't know if they would be appropriate for rail clamp-on rod holders for railing made with tubing (instead of pipe) as shims will be necessary. See

If Boston Whaler offers rod holders as accessories, you might consider using the type they recommend. Boston Whaler customer service can offer that advice.
